Some of you guys might remember me.
I'm the Guy that built that Volcanic 40 Caliber rifle, up in Member Skills Showcase.

She is a Mechanical Engineer.
She likes to hunt and shoot. She works with me, and ask me if I would help her build a rifle, which I agreed.
This is a Single Shot, 38 Special / 357 Magnum Carbine with a 21" Barrel.
I did not post the Build here, as this is not a Lever Gun, but I do know you Guys like to hunt and shoot.

She ambushed this White Fallow Doe from a Bow Stand, and shot her through both lungs at about 33 yards, with a standard 38 Special Cartridge !

I kept telling her to use a Magnum if she was to go hunting, but these Young Women have a mind of there own, and pay very little attention to what I say.
Her and her Uncle followed the blood trail untill they found her collapsed, and finished the job with a 308 !

It appears to be a falling block with a spur trigger.
Do you have any closeups of the action?

Hey Buddy,
Long time, no see !

And the Game Keeper, another of my old friends.

I know, I not been here

It is a Falling Block. The receiver is made from Aluminum Bronze.
This is a tiny Action, specifically designed for this Young Woman.

The Block has fallen, and a 38 Special ready to be inserted.

Charlie, you are right about this being a lever gun forum but I believe that most of us would enjoy seeing a pictorial of the building of that rifle.

At least I would!

He wants Dear Old Dad to build him a rifle.
He wants something in 7.62x51, (308 Winchester).
That will be my next build, (starting in a few weeks)

It will be a Crossbolt Action of my own design.
It will have a Sporting Rifle apperence, with a Pistol Grip.

If Hobie or one of the other moderators will give me a bench to work off of, I will let you guys watch.

Yes, truly a gift. It is one thing to have the engineering knowledge and machining skill the build these guns, but the gift is to have the imagination to design them, and use the knowledge and skill to build them.

They are not just tools, but functioning, useable works of art.

Just lovely! Both the lady and the handiwork!!

Are the actions on those single shots both of your own design? Does aluminum bronze have any galvanic corrosion issues with steel? I'm familiar with it in the aerospace industry but it sure seems like an ideal receiver material. Any idea why it's not used more?

Thanks Charlie! It's always great to see something like this and while those falling blocks DO have levers (as does a bolt gun or "side lever" as we call it

) I don't think it matters a bit if the firearm has a lever or not - you will find broad support and interest here when it comes to your work!!

What is the bronze alloy like to work with Charlie? Does it chip or curl?

I imagine little rake is needed on drills etc.

You and these other Guys,
it's a delight for me to say hello to youall again.

It makes me feel good to have what I do, appreciated the way you Guys do.

Those Actions are my own design, as I never do, or copy, what the other Folks do.
I suppose if you submerged that Aluminum Bronze Gun in Salt Water, there would be galvanic action, but, I have not had any problems with that material myself.

Lever Guns is the friendlest place I have ever shared my work on.
I promise you, I will document my next build here for you Guys to watch.
As is my style, you will see something different and unique.

I did build that Volcanic Rifle again in "Titianium" !
I will post a picture next week.

I have another Lever Action design I intend to build in the near future.
It will be able to shuffle and shuck the 45 ACP, or 40 S&W.
The only problem with this kind of Lever Gun is, round nose Bullets must be avoided at all times.
