"Old" is 1981....that's pretty funny. Congratulations.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.
Re: Bought my "first" Lever gun yesterday.
If 81 is old , I'm a Pyramid They don't still make them do They ?
Congrats on the Marlin, to Me a Gun is a Gun if it goes Bang. And "No" intervention don't help- U tend to ignore those that want to help.

Hard to find a better "first": you've made a nice start there, Vash. And of course a Marlin made when Marlin was still "Marlin" is an "old Marlin". In some ways a 1981 Marlin 336 is older than a 1950 Marlin 336. Seems Marlin made these things on the same "old" machines they'd used since the early 1900's, so every year of production the machinery got a little older and thus tolerances got a little harder to hold. Maybe part of the reason why we don't have "Marlin" Marlins anymore. And was also the reason behind the "Marlin jam #1" (just in case your baby wants to jam on you, report back here and we can help )

i didnt know that, but it makes sence. lol
and i call it old because it was made prior to me being born
and yes i did my research and was not buying a "remlin" for my first marlin.

ARGH I'm 16 years older than my 1976 vintage Marlin. Call me geezer. Great first levergun, can't go wrong with a Marlin.

Re: Bought my "first" Lever gun yesterday.
Vash don't let anyone try to spook you about the recoil. I'm 5'8" on a tall day and about 170. The recoil with even Buffalo Bore or Garrett (higher velocity rounds only for newer rifles) while noticable isn't all that bad. Besides, 45-70 loads are out there that are positive marshmellows (think cowboy loads), so you can certainly find one you can handle even if you are recoil sensitive.Vash1023 wrote:ive heard its similar to shooting shotguns with slugs...Mescalero wrote:You better shoot one first.
