Cutting edge - back in time

Post by Old Savage »

Uncle Steve Buzash bought this knife in 1936 and used it to carve what are now called primitive decoys for use on the Delaware River. It was made by Robeson they used the terms Pocket Eze and Shuredge. He gave it to me a few years ago before he died. In my recent knife collecting I came across this Robeson model. Picture is from the new PB. Which won't post because it is too wide. I'll work on that.

I had left the old image here and it would not post - removed that and it worked - so apparently if any image is too wide it won't accept the whole post.

Went back and edited and saved - it has the drop down menus back if you mouse over - well not exactly - you have to hit the little settings wheel.

Here are some Camillus - this was done with Snapbucket - lots of editing options - slow. From the phone camera uploaded right to photobucket in a file cleverly called Snapbucket.

Knife at the top was on my grandfather's farm - he died in 1941. I am sure nothing was purchased after he died. He had had the farm since 1913. There is no brand or markings on the knife.

Really like the bottom one, what are the grips made of?
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Canadian Russell yes. For skinning I would get the original because it is convex ground.

Yes, it's their high polish blue version. Polish and blue done in this country by Ford Plating. :)

I especially like the engraving on this one.

Close-up; I think the moose would look great on one of my Model 94 receivers.

Not every knife is suitable for hunting AND fishing. It's a lockback, too!

Is there a difference between a regular matate and a Medicine man's matate?

Yes!
Very much so!
The medicine mans metate has created a firestorm locally, it took years for it to subside.
It sparks as much controversy as the petrogylphs.

Would it be possible to describe it, I am just curious what makes it different.

I have a few matate's and have seen many different one's or types. Some portable some stationary.

Brown in color,
4 & 3/4 " across,
1& 1/2 " thick
grind surface 2 & 1/4 across,
rubbing the grind surface creates some strange sensations.

That is why I said medicine man, as he would not need to grind a large quantity.
