Got me an old lever gun yesterday

Post by Mossyoak1957 »

Found this old Marlin Model 1893 in 30-30 Cal. 26 in. octagon barrel with original Rocky Mountain front blade sight..all matching numbers on wood, tang, and receiver.
It was born with case colored receiver but that's long worn away.
The barrel still has nice strong rifling.
Action is smooth as butter.
No rust or pits anywhere on the gun but the bluing is worn shinny in a few spots.
Actually the wood has some nice grain to it but I don't think I'll fool with this old timer much,I kinda like it the way it is.
It's just an old honest gun,
Took it to the range today and man it's still a shooter.

9 shots at 50 yards...I think I can do better it was 15 degrees out was kinda in a hurry

Looks like that one would make a dead deer.

Good enough.

Well Done!

Very nice late production rifle. "D" puts it into the 1920's.

That is one handsome rifle!

I really like the proportions with the long octagon barrel,
and the lines of the stock are beautiful.

And it shoots! :D

If you ever get to Pa the guy I got this from has about 10 more Marlins like mine and about 300 to 400 Winchesters. 1873's,1886's,1895's,Henry's,64's,70's,1894's,94's and everything in between.

He wouldn't let me take any pictures and made me swear I wouldn't tell anyone where he lives,I don't blame him for that. But I could get you in..
