Problems with Wal Mart Tire center
PillHer had bought some tires from Wal Mart for her van. One of the tires broke a belt from a pothole and developed a flat spot. Two different Wal Marts have refused to do anything about it. I have called 1800 Wal Mart and they still are giving me the run around. I don't recommend going to Wal Mart.

What is the warrany of the tire manufacturer?

Re: Problems with Wal Mart Tire center
The tires still have about 1/2 the tread based on measuring from a spare which was the same tire and is still new.

Check to the top of the wear bar, and look at your paper work from the puchase, may be only covered on road hazard up too 80 or 90%. And if it has a 45000 mile warrenty and you have 46000 well thats it.piller wrote:The tires still have about 1/2 the tread based on measuring from a spare which was the same tire and is still new.

Re: Problems with Wal Mart Tire center
I will have to check the paperwork. The real kicker is that they are trying to tell me that the broken belt is not broken, and that the soft spot in the tread is how it should be. I hate being lied to.

Re: Problems with Wal Mart Tire center
That would be covered under their road hazard waranty. Definately a good thing to get seeing that you pay $500 bucks for a set of tires and it is very possible you could pick up a nail near the edge of the tire that would make it unrepairable.

Re: Problems with Wal Mart Tire center
The manager at the TLE in the store in Lancaster, TX called me a name for telling him that the flat spot on the tire was from a broken belt and that I knew he was lying to me. They just don't want to cover it, and the road hazard warranty is not worth the ink on the paper.

At some point you may have to get the tire manufacturer in the loop. Why I like Discount Tire. If a brand name that has "branded" stores, take it by them to have the problem checked out. Sooner, rather than later.

Re: Problems with Wal Mart Tire center
I bought some 1300 dollar tires for my ranch truck 4x4, at WM and 4 days later one has a slow leak. Took it back and they said it was a valve stem, they replaced it, 3 days later same problem. Took it to the local place and a kid fixed it no problem. Got my next 4x4 tires from Costco. Walmart gets no more tire money from me.
Re: Problems with Wal Mart Tire center
WalMart auto shop USED to do my oil/lube. The truck had 8 or so lube points, and the paperwork one day said they hit 4 of them. The little blonde that did the work said the other ones were too hard to get to. Manager refunded my money, lubed all points, and the girl picked up her stuff and departed all in about fifteen minutes. I take my stuff to the dealership ever since that. They always have specials, and always look at every little think so they can up-sell something.

I'd have been tempted to keep giving them my business, as long as that same manager was running things.BlaineG wrote:Manager refunded my money, lubed all points, and the girl picked up her stuff and departed all in about fifteen minutes.

I also go to Discount Tire/Tire America, for about the last 20 years. 4 sets in that time, and 3 have had wear credit refunded towards the next purchase. Also flats are fixed or replaced w/ no fuss, all I pay is $10 warranty fee on the new tire.

Re: Problems with Wal Mart Tire center
Piller, that's too bad.
Unfortunately, that's how Wal-Mart operates. Their "service"
is legendarily bad. They'll let people stand in line for 30 or 40
minutes for their groceries rather than pay one extra cashier
when it's busy. It's one of several reasons why I don't shop there
anymore.
I've bought my rubber at a local tire shop in Augusta, Maine
for the last 20 years. Tire Warehouse on Bangor St.. Prices
are always competitive, although sometimes not the absolute
lowest. I once had a problem with broken belts on a couple of tires
I had recently purchased. The manager looked at the car, looked
at me and said, "How about four new tires?" "How much, I asked?"
"Nothing - let's take care of the problem."
Like I said, they're not alwasys the absolute cheapest, but their
service is terrific and worth any extra few bucks. I can and have
sent my wife in and I KNOW they won't take advantage of her.

I don't think there is any recourse that will result in anything but frustration.
I would write it off and find a different vendor.

Re: Problems with Wal Mart Tire center
I was in there a while back and some woman working there suggested that I go through the self checkout. I asked if there was any discount for checking my own purchases and bagging and was told no. So I asked then why bother?stretch wrote:Unfortunately, that's how Wal-Mart operates. Their "service"

Re: Problems with Wal Mart Tire center
Michelin said that since Wal Mart did not give us the Michelin Factory Warranty information, they could do nothing. I am still mad. She went to Discount Tire and bought Kumho tires. Funny, but the van was much quieter and the Kumho tires are rated for 15000 miles more than the Michelins were. Quieter ride, cheaper, and longer life. I am happy with Discount Tire. Funny, but when PillHer took her van there, the salesman went out to look at the tires after she told him she wanted some new ones, and he came back and suggested that she replace the one with the broken belt and one other, and that she could come back for the other two if she was satisfied. He saw the broken belt quickly, and the cretin at Wal Mart kept saying it was just from her anti-lock brakes locking up when she stopped. Wal Mart will still have some of my business in their store due to the situation that there is not really anyone else around, but the TLE has lost a customer, and I now understand why so many of the Wal Mart customers are rude to the employees. I will go out of my way to see if people are looking at tires at Wal Mart and try to talk them into going elsewhere.

in business, service is everything.
look what it's done for sierratradingpost.
I bought some base layers last week with a 30% coupon. Overnight I received a 45% + free shipping coupon code.
I called in the morning to see if they would cancel my order and reissue it on the new coupon to save me $20. They said overnight it was already through to the shipping dock and they e-mailed me a $20 gift certificate.

Re: Problems with Wal Mart Tire center
We sell a ton of Kumho tires at my dealership. They are a great tire for the money. You will like them.
As far as Walmart's service, it's a joke. We get people in all the time that say, "I just had my car at Walmart and now _______ is broke, or doesn't work". I can't believe how many tire pressure sensors they break while trying to install tires, and won't accept the blame or pay for the repair, which they are not equipped to make. I wouldn't let them install tires on my truck if they gave me the tires for free. I know a guy that used to be a manager at a Walmart service center. He's now in real estate, and all I can say is, well my mamma told me if you can't say anything nice.......

I was gonna suggest you pound a nail into the sidewall of that defective tire and have them pro-rate a new tire.
But I see you have remedied your your problem already. Kumho are Korean made, and Koreans are putting out some great products at very reasonable prices. Much of their electronics are equal to the Japanese, and their latest automobiles are of excellent quality. I wish Hyundai/Kia would export their mini-trucks here.

Re: Problems with Wal Mart Tire center
I had my oil changed at wal mart for a while, I thought I was being pretty smart, saving 10 bucks each time. It ended up costing me a rebuilt transfer case in the 4x Nissan pickup. They told me everytinh was topped off etc, only they didnt tell me that did NOT service 4wd parts. The trasnfer case had a slow leak, which eventualy leaked enough to ruin the bearings and seals.
I've had bad experiences with their tire service also. I had a tire repaired once there, (one of theirs), and was standing outside the bay while the kid was lowering the truck back down. I saw a nail in one of the tires he had just rotated (not the one he had fixed) and mentioned it. He said "Oh, I know". "Uh, well why aren't you fixing it?" "I didnt know you wanted me to".
Some friends had some sort of basic service done at a wal mart, they seemed to take forever, and never calling them on the store intercom that their vehicle was done, they finally went and asked, nobody seemed to know anything. They pushed enough that somebody finally figured out that the guy that parked it went home right after that,....with their keys in his pocket. The store had to call him and get him to drive the 20-some miles back and bring the keys. They didnt offer any discount on the 1 1/2 hour oil change.
Sometimes I think they turn the pile of applications upside down and pick the ones on the bottom of the pile for their service employees.

Re: Problems with Wal Mart Tire center
Well the first thing I would have done is ask them to rebalance the tire; after about a pound of weights they might declare it unbalanceable . Least it would be fun, and you might get a pound of lead.
Can't believe Michelin didn't stand behind their tires, but from what I understand many name brand products manufacture items "special" for wal-mart, and will not provide a warranty. I know for a while Remington would not provide and factory service for guns purchased at WM.
I know my last set of tires I bought from WM, about 5 years ago. I was having a problem with them, took them back, and like you, they basically blew me off. Took them off, put some others on. About 2 years ago I found out that the tires WM had sold me had a factory recall on them. Hummmm.... You would WM would have known and informed me.
