Doc I read a post here (I believe) that talked about USFA reducing their product offering to the high end and special editions. I have also read that their primary owner may have changed directions in manufacturing....wish I had purchased a USFA before they got so expensive....maybe another member will have more info sir....

They make these weird .22 Zip guns but were selling all they could make of the SAs - one year wait last spring, same as Colt. Must make sense somehow - web site does not seem to show any SAs for sale.

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page it says that USFA single actions are only sold through the SASS.

It makes no sense to me at all. Everything they made sold out fast, so stop making them? I just don't get it.

I wish I'd had the means to acquire some of their autos and oddities, but now I suppose they'll become even less obtainable.

Steve - nothing there leads to availability unless you must do it through SASS. Only thing you can get are the Zips.

Just a few weeks ago the redirect off the old USFA site to http://www.usfasingleactions.com brought up at least some sub links. Poorly designed site to begin with, truly smacked of a half-baked, short term or interim site. Now I can't get any useful links to work--not off my "smart phone" at least which usually does ok at this stuff. But when I could access at least some aspects of the new site (then) it looked like only .45 was available (though another page still referenced numerous other calibers--apparently an old page they hadn't updated?). Odd - and a shame...stellar firearms.

The Long Hunter link says they are temporarily unable to get USFA guns.

Rumor: This is third-hand .. I heard that the owner gave it up .. tired of putting time and money into it .. sold their CNC machinery and were hand-fitting left over parts .. most of the gunsmiths had left and were working for other companies.

Well JimT - you are likely well enough connected that I will take that as the way it is. My quest for a top quality regular SA will have to go with it.

It's only a rumor that I picked up .. I have no proof that it's true.

Here's my USFA compared to my old Colt SAA ...

Thankfully I'm told that Colt has upped their game and the new (as within the last year or so) Colts are very nice. The ones I've seen certainly look that way, so perhaps a genuine Colt is in your future?

Had three nice ones - New Frontiers - 44 and 45 and an ivory handled SAA 44 all 7 1/2" that got traded off with the hunting rifle pursuit. All great guns they were. 4 3/4" 45 Colt is probably what I am after. Plain Jane would be great. Might just get a nice clone.

Do you have a shop where you can look at the Uberti and Pietta clone side by side? I'd be interested in your take on the two.

At any rate, it's sad that USFA will no longer be an option. I'm saddened that STI out of Texas gave up on the SAA scene so quickly also, it looked as if they were going to make a product that would rival USFAs.

I see, too bad looks like their guns were nicer than the Colt's per Jim's pictures. Isn't it the way it is, the good stuff always seems to end.

Oly, I have looked at both. The Piettas are a little better I think. They are tighter than the Colts I have seen in lock up. Heritage Rough Rider Big Bore is Pietta with some assembly here - very smooth and tight - 6 shots - pin in the frame. 1860 I have is tight and smooth. I may get a Uberti or see what Lipsey's has in Ruger 45/45ACP if in stainless.

I will no doubt keep my eye out for what is available. I have let 10 Colt's go through my hands - expect there might be more.

Yes, the Rough Riders in center fire are nice looking I think and a good deal to boot. I'm partial to the EMF Alchimista II also:

10 Colts! And not one was a lifetime keeper??

This Heritage came in to the local gun shop - some fella had to get rid of it - very tight, shoots well, price was right - 45.

seems better fitted than the Colt which shoots right where it looks.

Now to me .... not that I would ever start a controversy .... the 44 Spl. is the perfect single action cartridge.

Veeery nice. And I would like to get up to see you and do some shooting! Perhaps another Great Western Lever Guns Gathering is needed? If I'm given over a month to prepare for it I can bid to have it off and stand a good chance of making it. Short notice (anything less than a month) is tough for me as getting time off from work once the schedule is locked in is like pulling hen's teeth.

Cheers,

I see his initials on the grip, and the dates 1994-2003, is that his tenure as President of the NRA?

I hope to be able to come to CA for one of your get togethers some day.

this sounds redundant. (no offense)
I think they make a beautiful arms - with quality better than Colt. I would buy one if I could afford it...
