Ugh.....Company Re-Organized My Dept..
They chopped two slots, one was me It's off to the unemployment website It might be a little tricky for awhile, but I'll make it ok, and even though I had worked up to a fair wage, and I'll never replace that, almost everything about the job was irritating me. I can get a minimum SS in less than a year, and unemployment is 99 weeks, think.....I got some fishing and thinking to do, I believe. A good thought or two, would be appreciated, as well, but like I said, If I don't do anything stupid, I should be ok, even without touching my 401K balance early.

Best of luck Dude!
We had a "re-organization" about a year and a half ago. I survived it but some days I wish I hadn't. Don't like the direction the company is going!
If you need to part with that " awful" 870. Let me know!

I'm in pretty good shape. When I sell the Harley, that will pay off my new Yamaha......Then I have no bills except for housing/utilities/Internet/Cell Phone/Food, and my Military retirement will cover that. Sorry, that 870 will be one of the last to go....2ndovc wrote:Best of luck Dude!

Good luck - often changes that seem bad wind up being opportunities for those who are able to think on their feet. You may well wind up better off in the end.

Heh, the folks down at the Salvation Army will be glad they're getting their tuba player back.
Hope you weather the storm well, and that it's a short one.
Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

Prayers said Blaine. My wife and I are doing ok and I've been retired with only one part time job (really) since 2001. No social security yet. Then again, no bills but utilities.

Prayers UP Blaine
I know you will be better off.
You could guide dudes down the river. Take them out after the wily salmons.
Hunt the river banks for the wily venisons. Or go commercial fishing in Alaska.
Among other things.
Whatever you do you will do well.

Re: Ugh.....Company Re-Organized My Dept..
Sorry to hear that Blaine. Watch how you handle that 401K. If you do it wrong there are some pretty stiff tax penalties.
You should be ok with your Retirement pay and unemployment.
Hope all goes well in the future.

Sorry to hear that Blaine. I found that after I got hurt 10 years ago I actually saved money by not going to work. U sound ok with it but like U said "don't do anything ignorant" (sounds better) like run out and buy a levergun.

I am sorry to hear this, Blaine, but it sounds like a blessing in disguise.
99 weeks of .fedgov teet, pension, little debt, AND retirement in a year....sounds like divine providence to me.
Maybe you have this path in front of you now to help you with adapting to a new lifestyle.
And the river guide thing sounds like a great idea.
Either way, I will keep you in our prayers and let us know if you need anything.
Anyway, your boss probably just got tired of you telling him why he was wrong!

Blaine - I'm glad you don't sound unprepared for this. That will make all the difference. Sounds like you've got your ducks pretty well in a row. I would definitely go shooting during your first week "off." Clear the head out, ya know ? - DixieBoy

Blaine, Have fun... and don't let the "99 weeks of .fedgov teet, " thinking commentors fool you, You paid for that through your taxes and SS and other deductions... Just make sure you have your health insurance figured out...
Government won't pay you back what you put in if you had it in some account at 5% all the years you worked. Kick back, take a breather, do some reconciling with natureand if something comes your way, be ready to pounce.. Good luck and may God be watching over you.

Blaine,
You will do just fine.I had the exact same thing happen to me at age 61(10 years ago). The plan was to retire at age 62 but a reorganization had me unemployed.I had to pinch pennies a little bit for a year till I got social security.I drew unemployment till it ran out.I drew on savings and got a small part time job.You will be perfectly ok.Enjoy your time.

Re: Ugh.....Company Re-Organized My Dept..
I, for one...am jealous!
Congrats on getting your life back.
We are having a global "state of the company" meeting this coming August 14,15, and 16th. With our company based in Germany and with the withdrawal of the economy in both Europe(-21%) and China(+2%, considered flat) coupled to our company disdain for anything pertaining to North America (too profit orientated, no loyality to partnerships). Along with licensing the next three largest competitors to manufacture OUR products for the Western Hemisphere market only, I expect that this will be a sales job on why we will be pulling back from N.America. So, my guess is that if I can make it to the end of the year, that would be lucky...but I need at least four and a half years in the least and a minimum six and a half years to be comfortable with the thought of making it into semi-retirement. Heck, even though I am pushing 59 years old, I still have a 12 year old and 14 year old at home...

Blaine, it sounds to me that you're a guy that thinks on his feet.. you aren't head over teacup in debt, and should weather this little blizzard fine. Sounds like these guys have given you some sage advice.. don't make any rash moves.. from what I've observed, no one gets good at retirement.. someone should write a book on what to do... hmmm... maybe you could do that.. best wishes..
