way ot and obscure

Post by Mescalero »

I went to the Old Hidleberg german bakery today on Indian School in Phoenix.
At 28th and Indian School in the middle of Phoenix, I saw a cottontail rabbit run across the parking lot, down the bar ditch, and into a drainage culvert.
Proving once again that life will prevail............ in the harshest of conditions.

Calvin Rutstrum observed that nature tries to take over whenever man doesnt maintain his works. Roads end up crumbling, and trees come up thru them, critters move in wherever there's a niche for them, etc.

When I lived in town, I enjoyed seeing deer in my yard and around the neighborhood when walking the dogs.
"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat." -Theodore Roosevelt-

Isnt it amazing how many people post without reading the thread?

We regularly have deer in town in Lander, WY, have to watch for them at night when driving down the street. I think rabbits will live anywhere they can find a hole and a little grass.

Here in Yuma, we live in a nice RV resort, very settled area next to an area of hay meadows. Lady down the street was sitting out on her patio at daybreak having her early morning smoke the other day, skunk came sauntering past her no more than 3 feet away, just kept on going. Said it took her a half an hour to quit shaking!! :D

If you'd caught it you could have taken it into the Old Heidelberg and asked them to make you some hasenpfeffer.

"Your most honorable royal majestic graciousness, did you say hasenpfeffer?"

"Yes, hasenpfeffer!"

we've had a month of rain and my fenced acre became very hairy. Finally dry enough I got to it last weekend, and had to get out the weedwacker to chop it bit before I could ride the lawn tractor through it. Spooked up a cottontail from its lie and it ran into my leg. This was 15' from my boxer's lie.

I have eagles and ospreys nag at me all the time for ruining their fishing
Image
hey, I was fishing here first and you waded right in

I've also had many birds of prey land on my back deck rail right out the window when I was sitting in my tv chair.
Owls, golden eagles, redtail hawks.
They're probably looking for those rabbits that my dog doesn't exercise.

My mother loved owls, shortly after she passed away this one came and landed just outside the window and looked in. :o

Yep, I remember where you live.

I've been in and around the whole valley. Even places before they were places.

I lived in Phx and worked in Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Apache Jct, and other places far far away from home.

Ahhhh, I do so miss the traffic and smog. Hack, cough, sneeze, snort choke.

Many moons ago we were drinking and driving down this dirt road and a owl flew across the road in front of us. It was at night seen it in the headlights, a Indian friend said something bad was going to happen.
We went to a old farm stead and made a fire and sat around drinking when all of a sudden there was a huge explosion. Another guy dropped a match down a pipe that was sticking out of the ground which bad for him was a pipe from a old underground gas tank. Blew a big hole in the ground and him through the air , burned all his hair off and embedded dirt in his face but he lived through it.
Kinda ruined the party as we took him too the hospital in his 69 goat.

The old taboos are a result of wise men and women noticing cause and effect.....Most of the ones in the bible were directly related to keeping your health and soul intact. Wise were the old ones

Seems the squirrels in this area have moved into town. You can walk the woods for a couple hours and maybe spot 2-3. Take a drive thru town and they are every where. Could fill the limit real easy if allowed, several times. Of course the town folks feed them with corn they buy etc. but then they complain when the squirrels move into their attics etc. and cause problems. I think the local nuisance critter control man has plenty of business. Don't see many rabbits around, lots coyotes, feral cats, etc. and the farmers have eliminated most of the old fence rows, and old homesteads and barn lots, really flat can see for miles across country.

We see cottontail in the neighborhood weekly, but there is a creek about a block from us, and a few lots where there is nothing but grass and brush. The squirrels stay in the front yard since the terrier in the back will eat them if they get complacent. The ones in the front are safe, but I wish I could hunt them since they are rather fat and slow moving. I think they have been eating well and would be very tender.

As far as animals being messengers, ask Balaam, Noah, Jonah, or any one of several others mentioned in the Bible. There was even a message sent by a dove when Jesus was baptized.
