New to me 10 bore, P Webley & Son, Best Quality SXS

Post by rjohns94 »

I have been looking for the right 10 Bore that spoke to me for several years. I am a great fan of English shotguns, of side by sides, and of beauty created out of wood and steel in the form of classic firearms. I have a few water fowl trips planned this year and have wanted to use a 10 bore.

This is the one I selected: P Webley & Sons 10 bore. Weighs over 10 pounds. 32" Siemans steel barrels with 3 1/2" chambers, extractors, shiny un-pitted bores and 90% blueing. Thin wall choke tubes have been installed. (this was a huge benefit to me as I want to use this for more than waterfowling and full and full are limted for other needs). 80% case color remaining on nicely engraved Anson Deeley patent box lock extractor action. It has a Semi-pistol grip, English walnut stock with a length of pull of 14 1/4" to an Old English recoil pad. Drop is 1 3/4" and 3". Wood and checkering are excellent. All numbers match and it locks up tight and on face. Very rare hammerless English 10

Album is here: http://s222.photobucket.com/albums/dd20 ... 10%20Bore/

Mike- nice gun! I'm pretty sure I know it. It must have made its way to PA from the West Coast. Best of Luck with it!

Great looking gun, I have two 10 gauge shotguns, niether look that nice, nothing like a good english shotgun. I managed to blow the first 6 or so inches off of the front of one of mine, I was bummed out, but as luck would have it I had Briley install chokes in it, now turned it into a real shotgun, the other has 32" full and full barrels on it, I exsperimented with wad slitting on reloads for it, believe me if you reload and split the wad with eight bettels instead of four you can turn one into a nice open choke patterning gun, the first day out with it and my new eight pettel wad reloads I shot into, but at one duck in a flock of teal, when my dog was done retreaving downed birds I went home, two shots seven ducks, kind of cool, but really put the dampners on a duck hunt tho.

Wow, very nice--really nice--LUCKY...! Reminds me of L.C. Smith shotguns made by Hunters Arms, Fulton, NY. My Dad worked at the Hunter Arms plant prior to WWII and my Grandfather lived next door to one to the engravers--I remember seeing heavily engraved shotguns when I was a kid.

There's just something about a super quality gun. You got to think, how many mornings did the engraver get up to do that intricate work? The stockfitter? the barrel regulator? Nice Mike!

I'd feel like a DuPont carrying that baby in the field :D -------Sixgun
