Empire State Arms - DA only, real pearl grips


Iver Johnson Safety Automatic Hammerless, the owl head facing toward the frame indicates that it is a blackpowder gun. I shoot smokeless in both of them and load my own very, very mild.



I know this site is supposed to really be about levergun discussions but it is the only site that I have been to that everybody seems to like ALL guns and enjoys seeing them and talking about them. If I am posting too much non levergun stuff, heck say it here, PM me, whatever... I'll stop, my feelings won't be hurt.

By the way Hobie, a few minutes ago was the first time that I read the sticky about "OT" threads. It took me a while to figure out what you were alluding to when you commented about "the pattern in my recent topic titles". I looked back through them and couldn't see any pattern at all. Oh, now I get it "OT" Duh!? Sorry!

Otherwise, enjoy! Let's see what else is out there.

They all look like they're in really good shape. So many of those little
revolvers took a lot of abuse.

And they shoot surprisingly well. The IJ actually will keep them all within 10" or so at 10 yards. The Empire, not as well...

I shoot cast 158gr LRN sized at .358"

Nice wheel guns!

Try swaged pure lead hollow based wad cutters. They really want .360" boolits but the wad cutters obturate to fit the bore nicely and give great accuracy and no leading. I like Hornady myself.

I think you'll be amazed at what that will do for accuracy.

The middle one looks like new. Hopkins & Allen; good looking! I only have one 32S&W, it is an H&R. I'll have to dig it out.

I have been looking out for a Harrington & Richardson Sportsman that I can afford. As a substitue, I found this well-used H&R Premier, 7-shot, .22LR, made in 1915:





It looks much better in the photos, than it does in person. For scale, here it is with a Smith & Wesson Model 12, with 4" barrel, nearby:

I'd think that someone slicing up a pearl big enough to make pistol grips would be throwing away the fortune of several lifetimes.

But... I am not a jeweler. It's possible that I'm wrong.

Yes, it looks like my Hopkins and Allen is unfired and has no damage at all. I like my S&W too but it has some pitting inside the muzzle. It is tight though. The Smith is 1886 and H&A is 1905. I also have a Berreta Lramie copy of 1874 New model three.

I know my finger is funny looking.

You might find that your Empire state is not really DA only but just worn out. Years ago I bought a S&W top break .32 that was a cute little gun. If I tried to pull the trigger SA in a slow and deliberate manner it would click and push the trigger forward. If I didn't cock it very carefully it wouldn't cock at all.
They are really special little guns though, nice.
