DNZ scope mount

Post by Marlin32 »

I just mounted my new Leupold Vx1 3x9-40 scope using DNZ mount on my Marlin 336 ME XLR.
It shot way low, I brought it up within a couple of rounds and am now dead center @ 25yds. Bad news is, I am out of elevation adjustment. Not sure if it is mount or I have heard of the "dreaded barrel droop" on these newer Marlins. I cannot visually see that barrel "droops"

I don't really want to use shims, that seems pretty unreliable, and kind of hokey to me.
Should I just order the Leupold mount and rings? Or what else can I do??

Never had a problem mounting and sighting in a scope before. Feel kind of stupid.

The last 2 or 3 new Marlin rifles I bought came with an envelope that states that the scope base MAY need to be shimmed to allow sight in. There is a picture (drawing) of the shim but nothing inside of the envelope.

It sounds like some do have the dreaded marlin droop but none of mine are afflicted,YET, hope it aint contagious!!

Maybe some Viagra will help.

Not sure if this will make a difference or not, but I wanted the same mounts you bought. I found out Medium is the lowest mount they made for a marlin. Maybe try a lower mount to see if that may be the problem. I read on the marlin owners forum that if it is impossible to bore sight with a scope mounted that it was a good sign of the bent barrel, but I would try a lower mount before I panick though. I think the problem rifles all were serial numbers starting with 91. Good Luck! Hope you solve it!

Well, mine is a "91". I believe the receiver may not be quite "square" or level.
The barrel "droop" I believe is just a term coined on internet. Anyway, I have no shims and will not use such. I may try a differnt mount.

The rifle shoots! It will put the bullets where you want 'em. Trigger pull isn't bad either.
