BOG?

Post by 1894cfan »

Quick question for you guys, I've got a couple Win 94s and a Marlin 1894c. Which of these two would be the best bug out gun? JIC TIA

I use RAID to get bugs out...

I'd take the Marlin:
  • Marlin has fewer parts
Marlin holds more rounds in the magazine
    Marlin is easier to disassemble
    .357 is available everywhere
.357 is easy to cast for
.357 cases last forever if loaded lightly
.357 can be loaded with small 'kits' like the Lee Classic loader
.357 uses about any powder you can think of
.357 is big enough to down most anything
.357 is small enough ammo is cheap to stock,
.357 is small enough ammo is lightweight
.357 is very quiet in light loads

Who do you know there? Going to be all by your lonesome? Family? How many? What other stuff are you taking? Think you have a particular place to go? Are you "from around there"?

Yeah, I know. That's not the question, but if you're by your lonesome it ain't gonna matter much unless you have a knack for making friends.

Hobie

Hobie's right.

Big factor is 'bugging out' from what, and for how long.

If you just wanted to spend a couple months self-sufficient and able to take enough game to stay healthy, plus defend against mountain lions and potential criminal 2-legs, one box of ammo and about any gun would do.

If you wanted to be able to go 'off-grid' for a few years, you'd have to have more ammo or plan to reload it or make trips to town to re-supply.

If you were expecting such bad social conditions that self-defense was potentially against hordes of post-apocalyptic zombies, you'd want lots and lots and lots of ammo. And more guns. And lots of backup/friends.

I think that pretty much answers my question!! Mine's a blued model. No scope but do have a williams receiver sight on it though. I'm going to TRY and avoid the bears. Then again, I just might grab one of my two 39a's. :)
