OT Wildlife Management Success!

Post by 20cows »

We have a potential Africanized infestation near my folk's cabin. Nobody has been attacked yet, but the critters show a lot of presence and curiousity at 150 yards from the hive so we decided it was not the worth the risk.

After we found the hive, my brother and I engineered a solution that involved Sevin dust and a 12 gauge.

The hive is in the trunk of this tree with a knothole openning.

I got pretty close.

Hee, hee!

The bees cannot enter or leave without walking through the dust. They're done!

Quite the engineers you are. Africanized honey bees? They haven't made it this far north, yet.

20cows,

I briefly worked for an exterminating company. Our spray wands were no where as interesting as yours. Probably not as exciting to use either. :D

How fast did you suck that SXS in and roll up the window after you blasted the hive?

Now that's not bad for a west Texas cowhand.

I was surprised to see bees in the hive today. The Sevin dust was pretty much gone from the openning.

I discussed it with an old rancher friend and he said give them a week. He said he had treated quite a few over the years and it wasn't the rapid kill like I have seen on ticks.

The fact that the dust was gone meant that a bunch of bees were wearing it. He said it's all good.

We'll keep a watch on it.
