I spent last week in Fulton county Pa at my buddies cabin. I had taken two old friends with me and one got the job done.
The rifle in the photo is a 1886 in 33wcf that was shipped from the warehouse Nov8th 1902. It wasn't a long shot only about 30 yards but one and done. She wsn't a very big deer but it was one of the three I saw all week, and I was the only one of 4 to even get a deer so I was pretty happy. First time she was "blooded" by me. The other rifle I took was my 1889 Marlin with a 1889 manufacture date, shes in 44wcf. That is the slimmer me in the photo with the smile. I now weigh a little under 280 from the previous 406 before surgery. Have a good one. Tom

To me that's a better trophy than some 29pt quadrouple droptine buck shot at 4000 yds with the synthetic stocked fluted barrel titanium bolt 3305 Remchester Shortactionsuperdutylutra mag, loaded with the 5 $each bullet and topped with the 10K$ rangefinding ultra dot lazer guided scope , some folks seem to think is necessary these days.
Congrats fine hunt, with a fine conclusion
Thats the plan Ben. I hunted with the Marlin the rest of the week. The old marlin and a 336 in 35 remmy are going to go back up with me on Friday for the final day on Saturday. Tom

Always feels good when you do it with a fine old rifle. I get odd looks from folks when they see what I hunt with. Like they never seen anything like it. Yea I got a Browning A-Bolt in 30-06 but it just aint the same. Next year Ill use my 32-40.
Nice shootin' Tom. Nice fat deer too. You are probably only one of about 5 hunters who scored on deer north of Rt. 80! They are all south now. My in-laws butcher shop is really loaded up.
The gun writers in the fifties to about Y2K made everyone believe the old guns were only good for collecting dust. I guess Remington/Weatherby, and other boltgun manufacturers paid 'em well to write those lies. I never did believe 'em as I killed my last deer with a boltgun/scope sometime in the seventies.
Your losing weight fast. Looks like you dropped more since I last saw you last month.--------Sixgun
They do still work just fine after their 100th birthday, don't they. Congratulations on a fine deer and a memory forever. Good luck on the rest of your hunt as well.
"People who object to weapons aren't abolishing violence, they're begging for rule by brute force, when the biggest, strongest animals among men were always automatically 'right.' Guns ended that, and social democracy is a hollow farce without an armed populace to make it work."
It always warms my heart to see an old classic levergun making meat.
