Winchester Trail's End 44 magnum

Post by HEAD0001 »

I am looking for opinions on a Winchester Trail's End Model 94, in 44 magnum?? I am thinking about buying one. What can you guy's tell me about the rifle. I have never handled one. Is it easy to mount a peep sight on the rifle?? Thanks, Tom.

The Trails End is one I've been after for quite a while myself.

I've got the Trapper version already and it shoots like a dream, but I like the looks of the longer forearm and the 20" barrel.

I've shot several, and even offered a trade of my Trapper for a Trails End a couple of years ago on the forum.

Anyway pee holes are already drilled and tapped, as are the scope moint holes.

Mine doesn't have any of those  !

I have a TE mfg in '96. that is already D&T for a scope mount or williams receiver sight.

I absolutely LOVE my rifle. Handles very well and has been 100% reliable.

Yeah, I forgot, the pee holes are custom.

And the rear scope mount holes are the same holes for the peep sight.

I gotta say I like mine. It seem's a bit "clunky" campared to a slicked up Marlin or a Model 92, and I doubt you will see one in the hands of the fastest cowboy shooters. But, danged if it don't just feel good.

Williams makes a peep sight that mounts in the back holes for the scope mount. I mounted a lyman tang sight on mine instead. My old eyes need all the sight radius they can get. It shoots great.

I have a Winchester TE in .357Mag. and a Marlin 1894 in .44 Mag.
I think that the Winchester is fitted and finished much better than the Marlin.
My Winchester has fired a couple hundred rounds with no problems and I am satified with the accuracy.
Too bad, Winchester was starting to make some very nice guns just before they went toes up. :(

I have the 45 colt Trails End and it it a shore 'nuff keeper. I also like the long wood fore end, about the only ones I like better are the Miroku 92 short rifles. If you get the chance, latch on to one you won't regret it. Abilene
