How many metallic cartridges do you.....

Post by Boreman »

reload? Not only for your leverguns but any guns you have. I was doing a little brass inventory and moving so equipment around, when it dawned on me how many cartridges I reload. I started to list them, and this is the list I came up with.I was suprised. With that thought in mind, I was wondering how many and what kind of ammo the forum members reload.
Cartridges with * are leverguns.

I only reload for 38spcl / 357mag / 44mag / 45colt

I keep it simple and only own the real popular calibers.

The only other calibers I have are 22lr, 30-30, and 9mm.

And I bought enough of these a couple of years ago to last a long long while. To me it was just cheaper to buy these in bulk than it was to spend the time and money reloading them.

What I have loaded.

Post by Hawkeye78 »

At one time in my life I was a serious gun nut.

These are the one's I have loaded in my history. Most of this was just to play around. Since started shooting with N-SSA, I now only reload self defense load and hunting loads. Still have most of the dies but got rid of a lot of the weapons and dies to get CW pieces.

A few of these were for friends and not personal and they bought the dies. These are *. Don't load shot shells.

My List:

30-30 Win
308 Win
30-06 Springfield
303 British*
7.62 x 54 Russian
300 Win Mag.*
300 Sav.

43 Spanish??? This was for a friends Rem. Rollling Block. I'm not real sure of the caliber other than it was obsolete and he wanted to shoot it.

Calibers I have loaded for, anything else, I stuck with factory for conveience and because I just never got around to it.

30/30
444 marlin
45/70
450 Alaskan. handloads only
375 HH mag. handloads only
35 Whelan, handloads only
350 Rem. mag. Handloads only
.308Win, usually just use the 180gr factory silver tips, because they have always worked so well for me.
45ACP
45 Colt
44 mag
.38 Special
And one I am fixing to start on is my .348Win, I like the 200gr factory offering pretty good, but darn, I can't afford much of that.
.357 mag
.358Win, handloads only with this caliber

For the most part, some of the more common rounds like the .308 Win, 30-06, .270, 25-06, I usually just shot factory, because they were easy to come by, and worked good enough.

However, I have loaded many many thousands of rounds for the pistol cartridges, mostly to save money, but also because I preferred my own cast bullet loads to factory offerings.

I really like cartridges with rims.

Now, I only load the following:

.45-70 black powder
.44 Spl in Skeeter's load
.32-20 (still working on this one)
.500 Linebaugh in my special gentle load

I have a .22 Hornet, but I don't load for it yet.

Scott,

If you don't mind using Black powder, try 18 grains of 3F Goex. Works very well for me. Soft lead bullet with SPG lube.

.38spl
.357mag
.44mag
.45colt

You know, the simple straight-walled calibers to shoot the same load out of my revolvers and leverguns... for somebody trying to keep it simple...

I shoot .22lr, also.

This reminds me, I have a brand-new Lyman die set for .45-70 I need to put in the classifieds...

I keep it simple and only own the real popular calibers.

The only other calibers I have are 22lr, 30-30, and 9mm.

And I bought enough of these a couple of years ago to last a long long while. To me it was just cheaper to buy these in bulk than it was to spend the time and money reloading them.
I'm with meanc

.38/.357
.45-70
12ga
.410

I also have dies for the .30-30, but those are a contingency set for if/when I inherit my uncle's Savage pump.

Man, thats a tough question. (well, not tough but very time consumming)
I have over sixty sets of dies of which a little better than half get used on a regular basis. Most all of the sixty are dash numbered calibers. I also cast for 95% of these.--------Sixgun

Offhand, without going down to inventory my loading bench:
12 and 16 ga shotguns
25-20 Win
243 Win
270 Win
7mm08
308 Win
30-06
30-30
35 Rem
357 mag
38 spl
38-55 Win
44 mag (rifle)
45 colt

Some of the above more than others. Primary interest is levergun calibers--favorites all.

I'm better at UN-loading than RE-loading...

My biggest by far are .223 and 44 Mag, with .357's catching up. Someday maybe 9mm and 45 ACP.
