Universal sling for Leverguns???

Post by Dastook »

Is there such a thing as a sling that is easily detachable and then easily attached again on another similar rifle? What I am looking for is to buy just one good one that can be used on a variety of rifles without a great deal of hassle to attach and detach. This would be for rifles that I don’t want to install metal sling posts. Examples.

Win. 1886 Extra Lite
Marlin 336
Marlin 1894
Win. 1892 Rifle (crescent butt plate)
Win 1892 Carbine (semi crescent butt plate)

Dastook,

I'm not gonna be much help, but not long ago I saw a post somewhere that showed pictures of a universal sling for rifles.

The butt stock end was a lace on boot with the sling attached. The barrel end was simply looped around the barrel and mag tubes and secured with lacing.

I've been looking for this sling for some time now as I don't want to drill my leverguns for sling mounts either.

OK, I found one like what I was thinking of.

Sorry about the hand. You might want to look for shotgun slings. Some thing like that might work.

Dastook,

You might also give this one a look, I have this one, with a recoil pad slipped in between the buttplate and the cover:

I use "Shotgun " type sling on mine Use it also on single shots i roolit up then put it on if I need to sling the rifle for some reason
I tried the nylon ones but they slip and rub the blue too much for my taste went to the leather ones instead .

Y'know, I don't think they're even made any more. I bought "it" (Uncle Mikes/Butler Creek?) quite a few years ago, at either Woolco or KrapMart for about $6.

It's similar to the shotgun slings Cabelas sells, except it's 1" cordua/nylon(no metal), and very light.

I usually keep it rolled up in a pocket or haversack, until needed.

I've sewn up similar ones, as handmade Christmas presents for a few friends, that I made from soft 1 1/2" wide decorative fabric ribbons (similar to a camera strap material) that I bought at a fabric store.

This isn't one (below), but it's another style I made from the same type ribbon & velcro.

[BTW -The "thing", protruding from the muzze of the #1 is a Tampax for guns, called a tampion, that started life as a violin string tuning key. I bought a handful at a music shop for $1ea in both walnut & ivory.]

Thanks Pete,

I'm gonna steal your picture and print it out for a reference. I know, intimately, a really good seamstress. So I'm going to put in an order and see if I can get her to build me one.

If I asked purty please could you take me some detailed pics of both ends so I can show my seamstress?

Thanks for pic,

Just checked with Butler Creek: http://www.butlercreek.com/products/shotgun_sling.html , and they have what they call a nylon shotgun sling like you said. But their pic is incomplete and no prices are listed.

I think the rest of that BC shotgun sling is a widebody, lke this one: http://www.butlercreek.com/products/eas ... lings.html

Except for a butt cradle, this one is a lot like my black one: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templ ... 4887&Nty=1

I'd take those pics for you, Joe - but I don't have a digi camera available for the nonce. My pocket camera died, and my son's is out on loan, for who knows how long.

How about something like this?

Or this:

Those buttstock cradling slings seem to be able to switch between many different rifles as needed.

You can use this method. Just take out the bottom screw from the buttplate, insert tab and tighten screw. Push loop over magazine tube and fix Chicago screw.
No holes in the gun and easily removable or transferable.
