Re: My New Arrows
I just watched Mr. Barta fletch and point some arrows and then go after Sandhill Cranes, with a bow. Do you just (maybe that sounds more demeaning than it should) hunt deer or do you go after other game such as rabbits, squirrel, turkey, bear, etc...?
I have hunted squirrel and rabbit as well as deer. Once killed a crow. That's about it.

Re: My New Arrows
Mostly I hunt deer & hogs but I shoot small game if I get the chance. Small game hunting in FL isn't so good.

Re: My New Arrows
Did you guys hear about the two hunters that got lost? One told the other he heard that three shots meant distress so he shot in the air. They waited awhile and nothing so tried again. Still no help and they repeated a few more times. Finaly one tells the other to shoot again. He says I cant. I am out of arrows!
Re: My New Arrows
I shot several perfect 20 yard bullseyes with them this AM.

Re: My New Arrows
Very nice looking set up.
Re: My New Arrows
very nice. nothing like 'em!
Hobie, bows are for everything! Based on the areas I have lived, recurve or longbow has taken deer, rabbit, groundhog, birds, squirrels, pheasant, ducks, bull frogs, turtles, rattle snakes (rattlers), prairie dogs, hogs, fox, raccoon, opposum, and sharks, rays, carp, mullet and other fish.
Good luck with your hunting this year. Very nice bow and combo.

Re: My New Arrows
Port Orford Cedar is a most excellent wood, and for a wood worker is like working with gold. These trees grow for ever it seems straight up with no branches for a long ways, making it clear (no knots). When you cut into it, it is white with perfect straight grain. Most of it is exported to Japan for coffins, and the old timers used to say there was more of it below ground in Japan than above ground in the U.S. I would rather cut into a board of Port Orford Cedar than plate of BBQ.

Re: My New Arrows
Those are some great looking arrows. I make my own arrows from Port Orford Cedar.
The best part of a wood arrow is the smell after it breaks, Very nice aroma. Enjoy.

What sight if any do you use?
I fired a bow when staying with friends last WE- the technology on modern compound bows is scary.

Re: My New Arrows
I've never seen arrows crested above the fletch line like that. Interesting and attractive. I used to make cedar shaft arrows back in the early seventies. Very gratifying.

Here are some more shots of the bow.

Re: My New Arrows
i used cedars for many, many years until they doubled in price...i used to get 100 shafts for less than $100.00 now they're nearly $300.00...
wonderful to work with...very accurate and somewhat durable.
a set of matched cedars is a wonderful thing...
