That's a real genuine heart tugger there. Why couldn't I have been born rich instead of handsome?
Jdad, yeah, that's the correct caliber for me. Boy howdy is that thing purty!

That is a dandy! Coincidentally, it was originally sold directly across the street from where I work! Of course that store is long gone now.

Since it's "current bid" is under $300, if you time it right as the clock winds down on the auction, you could get a really good deal...J Miller wrote:Why couldn't I have been born rich instead of handsome?

It's over $500 now....less than 30 minutes after your post. This is going to close well over $1k and probably closer to $2k. I've never owned a 1911, but if I were to get one......a pre-Series 70 it would be.AJMD429 wrote:Since it's "current bid" is under $300, if you time it right as the clock winds down on the auction, you could get a really good deal...J Miller wrote:Why couldn't I have been born rich instead of handsome?

The shame of it is I wouldn't have been able to do anything about even if it had closed at $300.00.

What a gem! It really should go to a collector but I'd shoot it and plenty.

Back in the good ole days I laid out $106 for this new Series '70 .45 at Best Products in Richmond in the very early 70's. Sometimes I see a levergun and threaten to let this old gal go. Trouble is it is the first pistol I ever bought. I enjoy loading for it and shooting it often. MAN I SURE LIKE THOSE GRIPS on the pre '70. Any suggestions on if or where a set of those might be had?

Just FYI. If anyone's looking at bidding on this I've done business with this dealer on several occassions, he's a stand up guy.

Is the rear sight on backwards? I thought those index marks should be on the same side as each other.

It's correct. Look at the overhead photo. The narrow notch opening is towards the rear. I actually thought the same thing until I saw the notch.RSY wrote:Is the rear sight on backwards? I thought those index marks should be on the same side as each other.

Yeah, you're definitely right about the orientation of the notch. Still seems weird that the index marks aren't together, though.jdad wrote:It's correct. Look at the overhead photo. Oly, thank you for taking the time. Much appreciated. Don't know if I'll snag'em or not, but I just might!

The sight itself is mounted correctly, but you are right, the index marks should be on the same side as each other, it's the indexing mark on the slide that was stamped on the wrong side of the dovetail.RSY wrote:Is the rear sight on backwards? Am I seeing a ghost? Is that you, Dan? Good to "see" you, again, sir.OD wrote:The sight itself is mounted correctly, but you are right, the index marks should be on the same side as each other, it's the indexing mark on the slide that was stamped on the wrong side of the dovetail.RSY wrote:Is the rear sight on backwards? Thanks for the info and sanity check. So, does something like that make the pistol in question more valuable/collectible??? Less?

Hi Scott.
No ghost, trying to wean myself from the demon box a little and get back to reading actual books you can touch and smell.
I was told about this pistol via this post, fella thought I might be interested.
Yeah, I think the mis-strike will help the price move upward, I've never seen one before, it's an interesting pistol that I just can't swing now.
Take care my friend,
Dan
