If a gal is only going to have one rifle.

Post by Old Savage »

My daughter who works for the Friends of NRA at banquets selling tickets and merchandise won a Ruger 1A in 300 RCM. That should cover about anything she might want to shoot.

Looks like her mother and shoots like her father would be a winning combination. We already know she's half-way there. Looking forward to the range report!

OK off the gal and on to the rifle! I love #1's, just bought a Ruger Lipsey special only 250 made a K1A (stainless light weight) in 257 Roberts. Once it shows up I will post pictures.

I love my #1 I also found out they didn't make a lot of them in .308. :D

I finally bought something that turned out to be rare.

See, that's the problem with having only boys. They win something like that they keep it for themselves. Not to mention constantly trying to raid the old man's safe. Congrats to the lady, and the dad.

I've met the young lady in question and her accomplishements put most men to shame! She if far more than just a pretty face. Very sweet despite all that going for her.

Thanks fellows, she has a masters in kinesiology, manages a large gym in downtown LA, works for Santa Ana College doing physical evaluations on fire and police, does private training and was twice Western Athletic Conference 10 meter diving champion and once one meter champion while at San Jose State. She is a joy to us. She was instructing Cowboytutt in west coast swing on one of his visit, now where are those pics? :o

Now on to the rifle, I like the 1A and have been looking up the ballistics for the 300 RCM - interesting cartridge and more powerful than anything I currently have. I must confess I did not know the caliber even existed. Looks like a great platform for 180 gr bullets here in the west. I have shot a couple of #1s from 243 to 458, and they have been accurate, the 243 particularly so. Looking at some other forums for reports. Due to logistics it will be at least a few weeks before I can get it.

Look forward to it. By then you can try this offhand at 400 yds. You and Loudenboomer did hit those plates offhand with your 71/84s last time at 400. Should be child's play with a 30 Mag. for you guys.

We also hit the 600 yard plates if memory serves! But I don't think you were on scope duty at the time so can't verify it other than with Prof. Boomer and I. What kind of (iron) sights you going to put on that 1A? Inquiring minds want to know!
