Hi :)

Post by Renegade Master »

Hi everyone

Have just joined the forum and wanted to say a quick hello. I came across this site as I am just starting to research lever action rifles, prior to purchase.

I am based in England, and at the moment only have a licence for 22LR, although hope to apply soon for a .357/.38 variation. I am currently in the market for a .22LR under lever, and leaning toward a Marlin.

I'm looking forward to reading up on some posts here and learning more about lever actions. At the moment I have a bolt action (CZ452) and a semi auto (BAR-15, basically an AR15).

Cheers

Dan :D

Renegage... Glad to have you here. It is always nice to have one of the few and the brave Brits who like guns to come to our campfire. What you guys have to put up with just to own and shoot firearms is almost beyond my ability to understand. I fail to comprehend how laws against things, changes the behaviour of human beings. I just can't make the connection between improving the race and keeping guns out of their reach. Oh well, just Colonial thinking I suppose.

Really good to have you here!!!

Thanks Charles, and yes you are right, most of our gun laws are crazy and pointless. The idea of course is to reduce gun crime, especially following the Hungerford & Dunblane massacres. However only the legitimate gun owners suffered, criminals who held weapons illegally still do.

We have a general election coming up next month, so hopefully a change of leadership may improve thing, but I doubt it. :x

Welcome to the forum, RM. You won't find a more knowledgeable set of folks on all sorts of firearms. How did you get licensed for an EBR?

Welcome to our fire, RM !

EBR = Evil Black Rifle ;)

IIRC, Your fellow British levergunners favour the Winchester 9422, but I find the Marlin 39a more accurate - probably due to the 4" longer barrel.

I have them both, and love each for what they are, and do.

Ah, I see. 22LR is the only semi auto we are allowed over here. My licence allows me 3 22LR's in total. I got the bolt action first, then the semi. I could have gone for a Ruger 10/22 or similar, but have always liked military style rifles. I was going to go for a GSG5, but ended up spending 3 times as much on the AR.

The firearms department over here don't distinguish between an AR and any other semi.

As is proper. The hopolophobes, over here, are driven by mediia hype which relies on appearance ILO substance - just like the talking head newscasters & politicians.

A warm welcome to you. Take your time figuring out what kind of levergun to purchase ...... there are so many temptations in this area.

Image Welcome to THE Forum. The only .22 I have is the Ruger 10/22, so I can't say one-way or the other regarding the Winchester, Marlin or even the "new-kid-on-the-block" Henry. Each seem to have their proponents, so each must have some feature(s) to recommend it over the others.

Enjoy yer new gun. Don't forget, we're visually oriented, so ppst pics when you get one!

I can endorse what Kirk said, take your time choosing your leveraction. There are quite a few choices out there and changing your mind after the purchase is a real pain here in the UK. :(

Dan,
Welcome to the best firearms forum I know.
I have 5 leverguns in my safes, not a lot compared to many of the US members here but not a bad score for the UK. May I suggest you consider joining the British Western Shooting Society - it is a Home Office approved club so membership is "good reason" for owning big-bore leverguns as well as other goodies like Section 1 shotguns. If you attend one of our shoots as a guest you will get a chance to try several different makes of levergun.
What side of London do you live on?

Don't forget the Ruger 96...!

Mine, next to a Ruger 77/22 bolt-action.

Welcome aboard Dan!

IMNSHO, you are leaning in the right direction, ie toward a Marlin Model 39.

i consider the marlin Model 39 to e the absolute finest .22 LR rifle on the market.

I dn't know if they've chimed in on this thread yet, but we have a few other Britons who are regulars here.

One word of warning. Lever-Guns are addictive, and they will lead you on to single-action revolvers and probably blackpowder as well.
