OT: Kathe Update... Prayers
First, let me say THANK YOU to all who have included Kathe and me in your prayers. The Power of Prayer is indeed real, and has worked miracles in Kat's life, and in mine.
Since last update, Kat has awakened to a whole new world, at least to her. While she was "sleeping," and because of oxygen starvation and anesthetic side effects, she "lost" most memory of the past 38 years. She woke up as a 19 year-old college girl who had just been raped and beaten, and had her throat slit and was left for dead. With immediate help from her sisters, and the assembled medical team (Thank God for excellent Psychiatrists) she quickly realized what had happened to her, and that much of her life had been "misplaced" in her brain.
Her heart had its own memories of one that she loved, with all her heart and soul, and she needed to find him again... That rekindling has been a long and confusing journey for her, and is not completely over yet, but she knows that I am the man she needed to find, and we're going on from there. What a joy to have her back, in that regard.
She was moved to a care facility close to home, and was reintroduced to friends and family, hoping to reestablish some memory connections. Finally, she was allowed to return home, where little things became once again familiar... It is a day-to-day project for her, but she is determined to do the best she can with what she has been given. Just last week, she was requested to return to work by her employer -- a monumental and confidence-building gesture. She does not remember details of her old job, but was given split duties as ER social worker and accout clerk for the ER, working two to four twelves per week. She LOVES it...
Sometimes she will have quick flashes of remembrance, sometimes more... She went with her oldest sister to check out long term care facilities for her brother in law. When they went into one where she had once worked, memories came back in what she described as a FLOOD. She recalled all the details of the place and the people there, and picked out a suite for BIL...
Today, as I type, she is just coming out of another surgery; this one to remove her trache tube and repair some necrosis in that area and to stem an infection that was beginning to set in. She got off work at 6:00 this morning, and walked over to the surgery just before 7:00, for the operation at 9:00. A brave and valiant spirit, trusting in God's healing touch, along with her awesome medical team...
Kat is still in need of prayers in her behalf, and sends a HUGE THANK YOU to all who selflessly prayed for her in the past. Again, my thanks as well. You are truly brothers in spirit.
May God bless you all.

All I can say is thank God for His healing hand. More prayers have been sent.

This is wonderful to hear Buck...God bless you and her, for what she's been through. Will send some more knee mail on up for sure for continued floods of memories, healing, and strength for both of you as well.

I think the silver lining is getting to fall in love with someone you've loved for a long time all over again. God is good. Blessings and prayers to continue. That update made my day. Tom

I needed to read what you had to say. And not only will I send prayers up for the two of you, but I think I better add one in gratitude for the trials I've (so far) been spared.

Re: OT: Kathe Update... Prayers
Later yesterday, Kat began to experince severely fragmented memory issues again. They lay partial (most) blame to the general anesthetic for the surgery. They really didn't want to have to do this procedure for another 4 or 5 months, to lessen the drug-related problems, but circumstances dictated immediate resolution. It was a calculated risk, at best.
this morning is much better, but she is still not where she was a week ago. This will be a long recovery process, with mile-posts measured by achievement, not by predictions...
Again --- my sincere thanks and gratitude to all who have so selflessly given of your time and faith.
