Rossi model 92 ejection question
Since I shoot left handed, I was wondering about the ejection pattern for a rossi 357 /38 model 92.
Does it throw the casings straight up and back so they'll pop over the shoulder for a leftie? Or does it angle the ejection to the right, i.e. towards your noggin
This is going to determine whether I go with the marlin or Rossi. I like the idea of the 16.5" rossi with the large lever loop.
I have a marlin .30-.30, so I know their quality and don't need any Marlin vs Rossi feedback please.

Re: Rossi model 92 ejection question
quietman,
Welcome to the forum.
The one Rossi .45 Colt I had would launch the cases back at an angle past my right shoulder when it was new. The ejector spring was way tooo stiff.
Once tuned with a better spring it would kick them out to the right of the rifle.
Being a lefty my rifle would probably drop them in front of your right shoulder.

Same experience as J. Miller's. The Rossis are great but as with any brand of levergun these days, they really shine with an action/trigger job. Luckily, the Rossi is simple to do and Steve of Steve's Gunz (The Rossi Specialist aka Nate Kiowa Jones here) has a DVD that shows how to do it. Check out his website HERE.
It couldn't be more simple and he walks you through each step. Also, you'll want to get a metal mag follower to replace that yellow plastic one, a plug for the stupid bolt safety, and a reduced power ejector spring from Steve.
Best $80 I ever spent and when I got my second Rossi I just got the parts. Now my brass ejects at about an 80˚ angle from the receiver; plenty of room for a lefty to shoot it.

Re: Rossi model 92 ejection question
Rossi has an expert that tunes the rifles to eject spent cases straight up and down you shirt collar. But I've gotten pretty good at leaning back a tad and catching them on their re-entry.

Thanks guys. And BTW COSteve. I live in Castle Rock.
Planning 2 purchases this year. a lever 357/38 and a Marlin 338MX (which right now are as rare as hen's teeth, only one on gunbroker and none in all of Colorado, darn things sold out almost everywhere)

Re: Rossi model 92 ejection question
My Rossi with the upgrades comes no where near my face shooting left handed. They drop in a nice neat pile just outside the tip of my right shoe.
Kind regards,
Tycer

My brother lives in Parker - right near Castle Rock IIRC.
My Rossi 44 Mag that I got recently ejects forward and right slightly - very nicely - as if it was tuned. Came out of the box that way.

I live just up the road from you west of C-470 at the bend where it turns up north.
BTW, Bud's Gunz has exactly what you want for $401 delivered HERE but you likely should act quickly.

Quietman, Welcome to the fire. Have Your ffl chek around with different distributors.I ordered a Mx .338 a few weeks ago and when My ffl called about them, they had 19 of the .338 Mx in stock but no Mxlr's. Good Luck with it.
Re: Rossi model 92 ejection question
Tried several places and they told me no go on the 338. Who was the FFL you went through?.45colt wrote:Quietman, Welcome to the fire. One of the Marlin Owner posters had an idea which may be correct as to why the 2010 run hasn't started yet. Apparently marlin is getting a bunch of them back with feeding issues, but knows the cause and does the repair rather quickly.
Halwg over there had this thought- "I wonder if this was a problem (feeding issue) that Marlin realized needs to be fixed, and held up production of additional 338's until it was eliminated?"
As for the Rossi, was about to buy one, held off for a day, and was offered an 1894C at a really good price.
But thanks for everyone's help.
Re: Rossi model 92 ejection question
Glad you ended up with a levergun you're happy with. It doesn't matter what we think cause it wasn't our hard earned on the table when the sold sign popped up.
