.405 win part 2

Post by remshooter »

anybody have any luck using .41 magnum pistol bullets in a win .405 .using lead or copper jackted ?and using factry 300 gr. bullets how does its recoil compare to a win 1886 exta-lite45-70 with 405 gr bullets doin 1600 fps both rifles would weght about the same and neither one would have a recoil pad (I have the 1886 45-70 ,thinking of getting 1895 .405 win)

Ran a few 41 mag jacketed pistol bullets and some gc cast bullets, but they're pretty light for the 14 inch twist. Not particularly accurate and really not cost affective.

Recoil from the 300 gr factory loads is pretty stout, something along the lines of 3 inch 12 ga.

I tried some cast 210 grain .410 bullets for the .41 Mag once in my rifle...couldn't hit a target at 50 yards with them...gave up. Went back to my Hawk 300gr bullets.

Mine is such a tack-driver with the factory ammunition, I haven't bothered trying load for it yet. I should start though, I really like shooting this rifle but don't do it often due to the cost of the ammo.
