Help I need to know the sight base size on 1957 model 39
Hi all, I am at work and trying to put together my midway order and the last thing I need is a new front sight for my 1957 model 39 but I don't know the base size. I think it was different than any of my 336's and just want to get the right one the first time. Any help on which one to order looking at lymans brass bead. thanks for any help. Tom

Are you talking about the dovetail? All 3/8" so far as I know.
Sincerely,

Your 39A had a ramped sight, screwed into the barrel, that had a dovetailed insert on top, and a round hood.
What part do you need?
What part do you need?
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

[Help I need to know the sight base size]
The issue front sight ramp is .340" wide and has a 3/8" female dovetail cut into it for ANY medium ("M") base width (.340") front sight blade with a 3/8" male dovetail, and of the proper height to zero the rifle.
IIRC, the issue front insert/blade's height was between .290" - .310", and had a gold bead.
It may be replaced with ANY bead of the same base width, dovetail size, and overall height - Since it's common for owners to change the front sight to a different bead material that may suite them or their eyesight or shooting conditions better than the issue gold bead.
For instance, I installed a fiber-optic front blade.
An Ivory bead does it for other folks.
Some folks also elect to change to a different SIZE of BEAD (There's two bead sizes: 1/16"/fine & 3/32"/coarse).
YMMV.
