I wanted to say hello to everyone, and to say I am glad to be a member of the forum. I am an old farmer who likes single action and lever actions. I have always liked Poco's and Jim Taylor's writing about guns. I have an old Marlin 30-30 with 1/2 magazine and 18 1/2" barrel. It has been a good friend for many years. I have gotten the fever for a marlin guide gun, nonported. Are they good? Does anyone have one?

Welcome Razor. I have a non-ported Guide Gun set up with XS sights and a scout scope. They are quick and hard hitting little guns. Most are very accurate.

Welcome to the fire. Can't answer your question about the guide gun, but I'm sure you'll get plenty of answers.

To answer your questions about the Guide Guns, no they are not good, they are way better than good! I've had one for several years now and just love it. I load it with light cast bullets for plinkers and heavy weights too loaded to the max. It's shoots just about any load more accurately than needed for most jobs. It would be one of the last guns to go, that's for sure.

I'd not part with mine, unless they came up with a stainless one in .444 Marlin (I like the compatable bullet diameter in the .44's, vs. the 'rifle' and 'pistol' diameters being different in the .45's). The lever throw is really l - o - n - g compared to the .44 carbines I'd been used to, though.
