OT An old Mexican song (translated)
I thought you might find this old mexican rebellion song interesting. (It might loose something in the translation)
Its called my "30-30 carbine". It was originally sung around 1918. I would think that they are singing about a winchester 94.
Old Mexican revolutionary song (my 30-30 carbine)
30-30 Carbines
That the rebels sported
And the Marderoistas said that with them they wouldn’t kill
The 30-30 Carbines
That the rebels sported
And the Maderoistas said that with them they wouldn’t kill
With my 30-30 I will leave and join the file of the rebellion
If it my blood that ask for, it’s my blood that I will give
For the habitants of our nation
Francisco Villa yelled out those of you that don’t have a remedy
Why don’t you go out to the front, those of you who don’t have any fear
Francisco Villa yelled out those of you that don’t have a remedy
Why don’t you go out to the front , those of you who don’t have any fear
With my 30-30 I will leave and join the file of the rebellion
If it my blood that ask for, it’s my blood that I will give
For the habitants of our nation
We are leaving for Chihuahua
Your black saint leaves
If a bullet breaks me
Go crying for me to the cemetery
We are leaving to Chihuahua
Your black saint leaves
If a bullet breaks me
Go crying for me to the cemetery
With my 30-30 I will leave and join the file of the rebellion
If it my blood that ask for, it’s my blood that I will give

I'm sure Charles will be by with a story about the song. I don't know why but stories about Texas and Mexico at that time sure do interest a lot of folks.

Re: canción mexicana
Do you have the Spanish words for the song?
Re: OT An old Mexican song (translated)
I don't have the words to the song but you can see a video that someone put together on you tube. There is a lot of old pictures in the video. I saw alot of winchester '92s a spencer and the rest I really can't make out. I heard the song years ago and totally forgot about it until I mispelled "carbine 30-30" on youtube. Here is the link.

Re: OT An old Mexican song (spanish)
Thanks.
Daughter's first language is Spanish. Says she has heard this sung but does not know words.
Recently gave her my .30-30. Studying Villa, Zapata & Juarez @ U Mich.
She says Villla favored a .38-40 pistol.

Re: OT An old Mexican song (translated)
I did a little research and found that the mexican army was armed with Mauser 98 in 7X57. The rebels, on the other hand, were armed with an assortment of winchesters and other lever action rifles that they could get their hands on. It seem that things never really change, bolt action advocates look down on the lever action. Well the rebels did win, shows how effective leverguns really are after all.

Re: OT An old Mexican song (translated)
Here's one version, at least, en Espanol, with my best attempt at the true translation (given idiom differences) -
"Carabina 30-30"
Carabina 30-30 que los rebeldes portaban
y decían los maderistas que con ellas no mataban.
30-30 carbine that the rebels carry
and the Maderistas say that we can't kill with them!
Con mi 30-30 me voy a marchar
a engrosar las filas de la rebelión
si mi sangre piden mi sangre les doy
por los habitantes de nuestra nación.
I march with my 30-30
to swell the rolls of the rebellion;
If my blood is called for, it is given
for the people of this nation.
Ya nos vamos para Chihuahua,
ya se va tu negro santo
si me quebra alguna bala
ve a llorarme al campo santo.
Now we go to Chihuahua
and to your black saint;
If I catch a bullet,
cry for me at the cemetery.
Con mi 30-30 me voy a marchar
a engrosar las filas de la rebelión,
si mi sangre piden mi sangre les doy
por los habitantes de nuestra nación.
I march with my 30-30
to swell the rolls of the rebellion;
If my blood is called for, it is given
for the people of this nation.
Gritaba Francisco Villa:
¿dónde te hayas argumento?
ven párate aquí adelante
tú que nunca tienes miedo.
Francisco (Pancho) Villa shouts:
"What is the argument?
Come, stop here, then move forward -
you who are never afraid."
Con mi 30-30 me voy a marchar
a engrosar las filas de la rebelión,
