Browning '86 Carbine Recoil Pad
Howdy,
Has anyone ever fitted a recoil pad to a Browning '86 carbine? Once you trim the stock flat, what pads will fit? It looks like most anything from Limbsaver or Pachmayr that has an insert wouldn't work, because you'd grind down into the insert.
I know it won't look very traditional, but, well, OUCH!
Thanks,
Hawkins

May want to consider one of these https://www.sageoutfitters.com/cgi-bin/ ... &key=40103
It works pretty good on Sharps rifles with the Military/carbine butt.

Don't cut it, you'll end up with a mess like this .... This is a Browning 1886 rifle that the previous owner had hacked up.

Don, that might work really well, but, dang, it's butt ugly (pun intended).

Hawkins,
Take Warhawk's advice. Leave it alone and eat your Wheaties. Recoil pads are made for rifles with real recoil.
I weigh 175 and have shot 400 grainers at 1800+ out of a Browning SRC and while it belts a bit, its manageable. 400 gr. bullets at 13-1400 are a piece of cake.-----------------Sixgun

See if you can source a buttstock off a win 1886 lightweight. They have a better shape and feel to them in my view. Then put a decent pad on that.

The Kick-eez "difficult fit" pad has a long slot on top and a hole on the bottom (for the screws). It is very adaptable for any wood stock. It comes with a filler piece of the same material for the slot and the hole so the pad it complete on the outside. I have one on my Win/Mir 1886 and it does a great job of reducing felt recoil. If you can use the length, this will fit without cutting the wood.

Howdy,
I agree on not cutting the wood. Give a look see here before you make a decision.

+1...exactly what I was going to recommend and made by one of our own. Beautiful workmanship! Don't ruin that beautiful stock on your '86 carbine.Bronco wrote:Howdy,

I use a galco leather padded for a shotgun like this one on my 1895 .405 and just take it off when not in use... It works great!
