OT - Hood ornament?

As mentioned in a previous post, I've been going through boxes in the basement - many I have moved through four homes - sorting, giving things away to Amvets, and just pitching stuff!

Came across this old hood ornament. I remembered this was in my Dad's garage forever. Does anyone know what kind of car this came off of?

If you look on eBay, you will likely find your answer.

I shopped last year for a hood ornament for my 1996 F250. Finally found a Chief Pontiac 1955 jet with a plastic front. My oldest, the electronic wizard, wired it with two LEDs. When my headlights are on dim, the front of the ornament beams bright yellow. When on brights, it is a beautiful deep blue. No need for me to check the dash to see if my lights are dim or bright--the old Chief has the answer.

Without knowing for certain, it looks like a late 40's early 50's.

Gents,

The "Rocket" screams "Oldmobile", but the Jet Age was common to everyone. I looked at all of the manufacturers' pictures on that Web site, but did not see the Ford rocket. I thought it was an Olds ornament for sure. '53 Ford it is! I lernt sumptin!

The ornaments were on both Oldsmobile Rocket 88's & Rocket 98's.

Quite a few of the 50's cars had neat hood ornaments.

The Pontiac Chieftain had an indian head ornament, who's white/ivory plastic face was wired, and lit up when the lights were turned on.

Plymouth's, later of Chrysler-Plymouth, had a chrome tall ship - and Buicks had real portholes.

Oops! Looks like he killed a Screech Owl. Sad, but an all too common event. "Hooters" are always bein hit by vehicles as they pass over roads at typical low hunting altitudes.

I thought it was from an Olds, too.

Then, I remembered we had a rocket/plane on the '54 Chevy truck I learned to drive in.

You have to remember the sound barrier had just been broken and speed was wayyyyy cool.

And there was no such thing as a man-made satellite ! IIRC, the Russians launched the first around the Fall of 1957 - Sputnik.
