But he made it from some odds and ends in a box of parts a friend gave him:

That boy of yours has got SKILLS! Great job on that one....never seen a 550 cord handle, and done well I might add.

That is decidedly something to be proud of. Now he needs a leather sheath for it and a levergun and he is ready to go.

Your son ought to be feeling very satisfied - he has every right to !

That is simply excellent !

YMMV, but I've never seen as nice a job of wrapping a hilt w/paracord as that one - and I HAVE an Ek so wrapped.

Please congratulate him for me. 8)

Dunno - no markings. Was in a box of 'parts' a friend gave us. It sure is really good steel, though - we had to use an electric grinder just to get the edge started (I did that, so it is my fault there are scratches on it), then he used a coarse then fine diamond stone, then polished it with a hard Arkansas. It will slice a paper towel without the towel tearing or getting any fibers on the blade.

I guess we'll start on the sheath-making; he already has the levergun.

During his years as a SWAT team member, he wasn't really into leverguns (they clashed with the head-gear  )...

but since then he earned this 1894 by killing me a deer with it.

How did he do that? That is really great work and I have some blank blades that I would like to do the same thing.

Too bad about the show and tell. I have to say this. Last night I saw a video tape of Mary's nephew( she is my fiance) who perfomed a skit on the Swine Flu. He and a couple of friends had constructed a news broadcast and in this he protrayed Barack Obama in black face aka Al Jolson.

He portayed all of his mannerisms to a tee but I was really surprised that he got a good grade and that he wasn't called down to one of the administrators office for some sort of punitive action or counseling session.

What state are they in? I can't imagine most east coast schools 'tolerating' that.

This could be an opportunity for him to earn a substantial living as a cutlery craftsman, or would you call it a "knifesmith"? Anyway, I'm with you on BOORTZ/NUGENT in 2012!!!! jd45

Don't laugh but it is in the Ocean State. Good Ole Rhode Island. Again, I was surprised there wasn't a big meeting with parties involved regarding that whole scene.

I wasn't surprised, being an Ocean-stater myself.

This state's folks have a very long history, of being the first to revolt against tyranny.
