Winchester 1895 musket

Post by Bang »

Okay I have restarted my 1895 project rifle again.

I have
1. 1895 Winchester Musket in .30 It looks all intact except an incomplete rear sight
2. reproduction shotgun butt
3. reproduction musket forewood - no top wood.

I have no stock screws and no barrel bands.

What might you suggest for screws, barrel band and bayonet band ?
Would it be too nasty to use ones from a 1903 ?

cheers

Not screaming like the passengers in her car !

Is there a 21st Century lever action?

The upper hand guard is very similar to the Springfield Krag. I've seen a couple modified to fit on '95 SRCs. Also there is a slight difference between the '95 SRC upper h.g. and the Musket but it can be made to fit if you find one.
I bought one at a show that the guy thought was a Krag hand guard. Got lucky!

Good luck with your project. That bayonet lug is gonna be the killer.

Love my Musket!

Hello 2ndovc,

You might give Buckinghams Antique Winchesters a call, 731-559-4169 daytime phone.

He is located in Trenton, Tennessee.
He has helped me numerous times, on just about any Winchester rifle.

Cheers,

The rear barrel band is similar in size to any other Winchester barrel band, but the screw holes are LOWER in the musket band to clear the fatter barrel. I bought a regular band for a M. 94 and had the holes TIG welded closed and drilled new holes lower in the band to clear the barrel. I have not tapped the band screw hole yet because I'm too cheap to lay out the $20.00 + for the special 4/48 tap and shipping that's needed.
