Puzzle 6- This EBR Has a Lever! UPDATE
I finished Puzzle 6 today (numbered in order of receiver acquisition, 5 & 7 are incomplete and 8 is coming in from Canada someday).
I built this one at my brother's request as a gun to carry on his 4 wheeler (while I was looking for the receiver, I found 7 & 8!). It has a larger diameter barrel like a big bore, but is chambered in.30-30 and uses a standard receiver. Nearly all the parts in this one are seventies era post-64. The stock is a synthetic (fit was marginal) and I glassed the buttstock and had to enlarge the barrel channel for the "bull" barrel.
I think it's going to be just what he asked for and a dandy at that!

Dandy is exactly the word for it. Good one!

Ooooohhh! I like it.

Looks like the right tool for the right job! Excellent, and looking forward to the range report on the 356 Win. as well.

Nice. Looks similar to what the Mad Ogre did with his Marlin 336:

I honestly wish I could get a Ramline polymer stock for my 92 for use during Hunting Season (rain/slush/swamp). I playes with the 94 version, but it just wasn't going to work.
I especially like the utility of the hollow butt as a place to store "survival" stuff.
I would still love to see a .308 BLR modded to take a longer mag...

Very cool - but where are your feet? Not lever picture is complete without them!
Re: Puzzle 6- This EBR Has a Lever!
C.Cash, the barrel for the .356 came in today! It'll be a whilebefore that one's ready though. Many more parts to gather.
Ysabel Kid, you can imagine how hard I had to work to keep the toes out of the shot!

DBW, I think he had a similar idea!
OI, if your 92 is a Winchester/Browning, the 94 uses the same stock. It might be something a little accraglass/gel could help with. (perhaps even for a clone).

I played with it for quite a bit. Maybe somebody with better woodworking skills/tools than I could reshape the inletting, but not me. The Rossi is too different.20cows wrote:DBW, I think he had a similar idea!

I have no experience with the Rossi clones, but I'm not surprized. It was worth a look though.
Re: Puzzle 6- This EBR Has a Lever! UPDATE
My brother took it for a spin Friday and we discovered it needed a little tweeking. I had used just a couple of fired Winchester cases to test headspace and extraction and all looked good. He was shooting Federal cases and they were a might tight. The bolt didn't consistently go all the way up if cycled slowly and it was pretty stiff to open.
I surmised it was headspace and took it to the shop that evening and swapped the locking bolt for another. Problem solved!
In researching this issue I discovered some facets of the puzzling nature of assembling guns from various part sources. I discovered there are two versions of the post-64 locking bolt. The angle-eject version has a bevel on the sides not found in the top-eject model. By comparing fit with my brother's top-eject to the that of an anlge-eject receiver, I was surprised to discover both will function in the top-eject receiver, but the older version will not fit an angle-eject receiver as its groove matches the bevel.
Learn something new every day.
