More 10mm pistols - Anybody like 10mm 1911's?

Post by Lew Bonitz »

I just saw the 10mm Witness that was posted. Glad to see some interest in them!
Does anybody else have any 10's?
They are an absolute blast to shoot. Here is a shot of one that my friend has.

Got my first 1911 back in 1985, so been at it for a while. After reading a Brian Pearce article about the 10mm I decided to get myself a Kimber and LOVE IT!!!! I can't believe how flat it shoots, at least for a handgun and the recoil is tolerable. I never liked .44 Mag, I'm not ashamed to say it makes me flinch. The 10 mm is just such a nice blend. I used to be a .45ACP man and I still have high regard for it but the 10mm is my favorite now!

My thoughts,

Geoff

I just have an ugly Glock 20, but she shoots great.

They seem like they'd make nice powerful semiautomatic guns; the Desert Eagles have plenty of power, but are too bulky, and several 10mm's are out there not much bigger than 1911's.

OTOH, for 'self-defense' use I think the .45 ACP and .44 Special class has very adequate one-shot-stop power, and very proven guns/actions/reliability. The 10mm might be the edge you need for bears, wild hogs, or Kevlar-coated criminals, but I'd wonder about the sonic consequenses.

If I can have 80% one-shot-stop with a gun only 10% likely to cause permanent hearing damage, and only increase to 85% one-shot-stop but 80% permanent hearing damage, (and I just made up the percentages for the purpose of illustrating my point, so they are NOT necessarily valid), I think I'd prefer the former, maybe in 'double-tap' mode.

Still, I remember the Para-Ordnance 10mm had something like 18 round capacity in a 1911 wide-body, and thought it would be pretty nice...

I have a couple of 10mm 1911s. One is my Les Baer Heavy Weight Monolith. I speced this one out to a 1.5" guarantee, 8 mags, and setup just the way I like. The other is my Razorback 10mm. It is one of the original 150 and I have 8 serial numbered mags to it. That was my suggestion to DW in the original order. I really like how they did it. Both are great guns, lots of fun to shoot.

I would love to have a Delta Elite but have to put that off for a while. I do have a Contender barrel. As a CARBINE it is an interesting cartridge, pretty well matching the BP .38-40.
