Howdy, fellas. Thought I'd drop in for a bit.
Just wanted to thank and ask you for your continued prayers and thoughts. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to secure new employment, but there are some possibilities on the horizon. Hope everyone's been doing well around here. It's good to see everyone's "face" again.
I just put an item up for sale over in the classifieds. Please check it out if you're in Texas. Time to get a little grocery money.
All the best, compadres.

Re: Howdy, fellas. Thought I'd drop in for a bit.
Many thanks, again, for all your sentiments. They do strengthen me.
Thanks for the meat offer, Joe. I may take you up on that. I have an empty deep-freeze that could use some company. As Ricky knows, you guys drive within a couple of miles of my house every time you make the trek to Hondo, and back.
One thing that I'm encountering for the first time, which I'm sure some of y'all may have experienced, is my age being a limiting factor. I'm "only" 41, but already some doors are closing for me. I was seriously considering law enforcement, but I'm one year too old to be an Austin cop or join the Border Patrol. And, any other place that would consider me wants folks who are already certified peace officers. I don't have the time or money to go back to school for that. It's too bad, really. While in the Marine Corps I held specialized billets for CQB and physical security. I'm still in good physical shape, and I'd be a good asset to any department. Oh, well...such is life. Onward!
Adios, amigos.

Having been there a few times in my life it wont help you in your present fix for me to go on, but have faith and dont stop looking for work, good men are hard to find.
On the other side of the fence, I had to lay off a machine operater of fourteens years, (also a good friend on the street ) this passed friday. His ongoing problems with the owners and constant up and downs of his life style getting in the way of good relations brought the heat. It hurts me deeply to say somehow I failed to bring this person the leadership he needed, some how I failed along with him.
Good luck finding work,
Pete

Hi, Scott. You're definitely not to old to be hired for a LEO position. I understand some departments want laterals so they don't have to spend the time and money on an unknown and whether they'll make it through the academy. But, they can't by law, discriminate on age. I'd keep looking around if you're serious. Apply to all that you'd be willing to work for or move to their jurisdiction. Most departments of the smaller persuasion would prefer an older officer, in general. They have more life experience, maturity and usually don't have to prove anything to anybody. Disclaimer; there's always those that can't conform and aren't cut out to be an LEO no matter what their age or experience. I'd be throwing applications like a mad man. This economy isn't helping anything either. A lot of departments are down sizing due to budget constraints. Good luck.
P.S. Stay in excellent physical shape as you want to be able to pass the entry PT when it comes. Nothing washes out new hires than the inability to pass the PT's, entry and academy.

+1 to what KimCook said........ Up here you could prolly shoe in for a LEO or corrections job pretty easy. M700 over to http://levergunlovers.com/viewforum.php?f=70 is LEO in WA and would be glad to talk to you about such things.
