OT: For Recoil Junkies....a 4 bore Wall Gun?

Actually looks more fun than punishing. 200 gr. Fg with a 1750 gr. round ball.

If someone wanted to fab such a beast, where would an individual find a barrel that size?

I think some custom barrel makers like Ed Rayle will make you a beast like that. Some guys I believe use pipes which are not necessarily made of hard gun steel, which is pretty controversial. This looks like a high quality gun so I'm betting one of the custom BP barrel makers made it for him.

Y'all realize of course that that cannon would be more comfortable to shoot from a standing rest than seated.

He's probably afraid that he will drop it Doc. If a guy stumbled back it would be easy to put it in the dirt. That's just what I'm thinking but I agree, it would be much easier to shoot standing. He's only using 200 Gr. but that is a light charge for the 4 bore. Also, it can be tough on ranges back here trying to find a standing rest or even a range table that allows you to sit up properly while shooting. I break out a pair of home made standing cross sticks when I shoot my Winchester Big Bore, but I'm waiting for a range officer to tell me they are illegal. Thats the way it is here, and that video looks like here but not sure.

If you think you might be interested in buying or building a really BIG BORE muzzleloader, contact Joe Williams at The Gun Works in Springfield, Oregon. He has a website, but I don't believe it mentions the availability of behemoth barrels and/or guns, so you may have to ask.

My brother built a 2 bore half-round barrel flintlock, a 4 bore flintlock with full octagon barrel, an octagon percussion 8 bore, and had started a 6 bore using barrels from The Gun Works. Unfortunately my brother suffered a heart attack and passed away before he got very far along with the 6 bore.

I have shot the 2, 4, and 8 bore, and they are for the time being in my possession. The 8 is not bad at all on the shooter. The 4 and the 2 are fine for up to 200 gr. charges, but with much more than that, they take the "n" out of "fun"!

Here is a pic of my brother with his 2 bore;

Now, now fellas...all they've done here is re-create Elmer Keith's boyhood squirrel rig, before he decided he needed something bigger. :wink: It doesn't look too bad....like having a car hit you at at only 10 mph. There was another video out there of a group shooting larger charges....I think 250 or 300 gr. charges in the 4 bore. It is gone now but was funny to watch. From info posted on the original thread, aparently if you were shooting Elephant in Africa you would use between 320-430 gr. of Fg, or about 120-230 grains more black powder than these fellas are using. I'm just wondering how many fellas injured themselves shooting these loads? :shock:

(disclaimer: I like Elmer Keith, this is a joke)

My heart says sure, I'd like to shoot it, but my brain says absolutely not. The hardest I've ever been kicked was shooting a 2 oz (875 gr.) turkey load thru my alloy framed 12 ga. It was a snot slinger and left a nice bruise, probably wasn't very smart. I can't imagine being kicked by 1800 gr. worth.

Shasta: Sorry bout your brother. I swear I've seen a pic of him or someone else who looks alot like him holding one of the big bores a while back. The photo was a little more from the front so you get to see a good pic of the rifle and I think it was in black and white. For the life of me I can't remember where it was posted thou.

The alloy framed Mossberg Turkey Gun shooting the 3.5" Mag. is an interesting ride for sure. It will really get your attention. I shot one and like Don Tomas...realized how fond I was of my retina's being attached :mrgreen:
