Rolling Block project wood
Got my semi inletted stocks back from Dave Crossno Gun stocks today! Dave always does nice work, and these are no exception! I sent my wood to Dave and here's what they look like wetted down to get a better view, but they should be a bit lighter when finished:
The barrel and #1 Sporting action are at John Taylor's for fitting and a few minor adjustments, then I'll assemble, polish, and finish it; shoot it a bit, and then disassemble for final case color and bluing.

The Rolling Block will be a .40-65 with 32" full round barrel. Still waiting for the barrel and action to be finished before I can fit the wood.Sixgun wrote:Vall,

I do love Remingtons, mostly Rollers and Hepburns!

Those babies are nice Commercial RRB to boot! The Hepburn is one gun that I have never been fortunate to own. Along with the 1876 Win, a Hepburn has never crossed my path in a "decent 40-60% shootable condition at a normal price", if that makes any sense. Specimens have always been either junk or 95%.
But...........it gives hope to the future---------lets see, I NEED a:
Hepburn
1876 Winchester (45-75)
50-100-450 1886
Thompson SMG (1921 w/violin case w/C drum)
Ma Duece "big fifty"
Colt 45-70 Gattling gun
Teddy's .405 (the actual one he owned )
Yea, I know, keep dreaming---Keep us posted on the projects as the old guns are a big interest in my life------Sixgun

Re: Rolling Block project wood
I too looked a long time to find a Hepburn, then gave up. A friend found a Hepburn barreled action, and I built one from that to "just have one". Within a year of finishing the Hepburn project, up strolls this double set trigger Hepburn. It had the barrel chopped to 22", but was a nice gun anyway. I bought it cheap and had John Taylor stretch the barrel back to 30", and then rust blued the barrel and aged it back out. So I decided I'd keep them both, since I liked them equally.-VallSixgun wrote:Vall,marlinman93 wrote:

Hopefully it will look as good as your Lone Star when it's done! I've got a couple casehardening outfits to choose from, but still haven't settled on who I'll use.-Vall1886 wrote:Very pretty Vall. 1886.
