Casting question
I just read a post on another forum, wherein the guy claims to use potatoes to flux. Has anyone heard of or tried this? Wouldn't the moisture content be a problem?

Re: Casting question
I've never heard of that. I too would think the moisture would be a bad thing. I've used candle wax, saw dust, stiring with a wooden dowl, etc. Have never thought about vegetables.

Re: Casting question
Is that guy from Idaho??? I never heard of using potatoes...would be VERY leary of a moisture explosion covering you with molten lead.

I still have about 15 lbs of bees wax just for that purpose.

Re: Casting question
Unless he's talking the dried instant potato variety, there is no way I would introduce ANYTHING with the moisture of a potato into a pot of molten lead! But then, who the heck would use instant potatos?!
Stick with a commercial flux or perhaps a bit of bullet lube.

Re: Casting question
Can't post what I really think of a person that would advise the unsuspecting on such a potentially dangerous practice. If any injury were to result, I'd like to mete out my brand of justice.
