I just got an original Winchester 71. It's a nice gun that at some point, someone put a little extra varnish on the wood. The wood is fine but they applied the varnish with the wood still on the gun and there are a couple spots where there's a little of the varnish is on the metal.
I'd like to remove it. I tried rubbing it with a cloth and oil but it won't come off. Does anyone know what will take it off and not hurt the blueing under it?
Thanks for any help.
How do you get Varnish off Metal/Blueing?

Never mind....a little nail polish remover and a liberal oiling afterward took care of it.

I was going to suggest acetone, but your fingernail polish has it in it along with other stuff. Good to see you gotter fixed.
