Unexpected but perfect mornning at the range!
Got the morning off so what better to do that run off to the range
I started with the Marlin 336 in .35 Rem.
I bought this rifle at a show last summer with intentions of making it a Christmas
present for our youngest. The stocks were pretty beat but it really didn't
look like it had been used much.
I've never had a .35 Rem so I thought it would be just as fun for me since I get to do all the reloading
I refinished the wood, XS Scout mount and a Simmons pistol scope ( I wasn't sure about this scope but I'm pretty pleased with it).
Well needless to say I'm thrilled with this rifle!!
I'd bought a couple boxes of Remington 150 Gr. Core Lokt at a show kinda by accident. Didn't notice they were 150s unti I got home.
I thought they were kinda on the pionty side so I shot them two at a time to sight in the new scope.
At 50 yds. First shot was off the paper. #2 high and left. Brought it down with 3&4 and six shots into 1" center to center!!!
Second target was Winchester 200 Gr RN. Low and left without touching the scope adjustments ( my fingers were numb by this time)
Five shots into 3/4" at 50 yds!
Holy Socks Batman!! I stopped there.
That kid better be good for the next weeK!!!
I'm going to need another one of these!
Was getting cold (22 F) and still wanted to play with my 1886.
Far right target is with the .33 WCF 1886. Still playing with this one.
Last outing the extraction was a little sticky but accuracy was great. I backed off a couple grains and
while the group wasn't as tight but smooth extraction. I'm going to bump it up another half grain and
try that.
Going to have to break down and buy a Chronograph.

Nice shooting in the cold! I'm too much of a sissy to get out there when it is below freezing, even though I have a new CZ .458 waiting for its first outing.
Am especially impressed with your .33. What a classic.

Stripped that nasty old yellowish finish with Kleen Strip.nemhed wrote:The wood on that rifle looks really good, what did you use?
I had to steam out a couple dings and what looked like vice marks out of the stock.
a light sand to lay the grain back down.
Stained it with Minwax Red Mahogany and then about eight coats of Minwax
wipe on Poly ( satin).
Looks better in person

Thanks Mike.
I'm lovin' that '86 too. Been really fun to shoot. Sixgun and MikeD have been a huge help with components and
load development. Big thanks to those guys!!!
I took it with me for deer season in PA but
didn't see anything but tracks

Very cool! I'm hoping to get out over the next couple weeks while on vacation and do a little shooting myself. None of that white stuff will be around though!

Cant see the pics just yet cause I am at work and they wont upload due to our filters. However, if its anything like the rest of your collection, I am sure it will be impressive. I almost jumped on a '60s model Marlin 336 in .35 Rem just the other day, price was right at $300 but this close to Christmas and the economy headed the way it is, I couldnt do it in good concience. Leave it to you to make me regret that decission!
