OT - Happy Birthday Marines!
It's a bit after midnight here - now Monday, November 10. So, I will wish a "Happy Birthday" to all the Marines, past and present (I know - once a Marine, always a Marine) here on the forum!

Re: OT - Happy Birthday Marines!
November 10th., 1775: the Continental Congress authorized two battalions of Marines. The rest is history.
& to all my past & present Fellow Marines, I'll also add my greetings.
For those who often heard of &/or lamented that they never served in the Ol' Corps, let me say:
The Old Corps; the Old Corps.
There never was anything such as the Ol' Corps.
As Tunn's first Marine sneered when the second appeared,
"It's not like it was back in the Ol' Corps"....

The most important aspect of this signature line is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything significant until you are just about done reading it & then it is too late to stop reading it....

Thanks, Jarhead. Believe me - it was clearly my privilege !!! Tell me honestly - if, in 1950 when this picture was taken - they told you this fuzzy faced "kid" was one of your Battalion Surgeons - would that have instilled confidence - or just give you one more reason to try to avoid getting wounded ???Jarhead wrote:OJ wrote:SEMPER FI !!!

My WWII service was Army and I still hold those grunts in very high regard but, my Leathernecks were in a class by themselves !!!
The day I reported in, the Battalion Commander (not aware of my previous service) advised me that even though medical personnel were non-combatants, they were going to the range to shoot and were extending the invitation for me to join them, if I wanted. My enthusiastic response got me accepted immediately and I assured him that Hague not withstanding, I would never really be a non-combatant.
He didn't know I grew up in depression days when we shot .22 shorts because they cost half as much as long rifle cartridges and, I well remembered in WWII how I felt when my 1903 Springfield was replaced by my M1 Garand. Now they furnish me the rifle, ammo, and shooting range and they'll even PAY me to do it !! Didn't need a second invitation and I was no stranger to any at the end of the day.

As an Army Bandsmen, I've attended many a Marine Birthday Ball......There have never been a group of finer Gentlemen to spend an evening with. I remember one Dinner Roll battle between the Head Table and the floor. That was at the KC, Mo Finance Center in 1972.

Agreed. But, Army docs are just fine in a pinch, too! Even though they do look at you funny when you say "Corpsman."Jarhead wrote:Navy Docs are the best!!
