New-to-me Marlin levergun ( sorry, no politics)
Went to the Yuma gunshow this morning and found it to be pretty thin pickin's, not very many guns and lots of the usual junk. A few $800.00 black rifles priced at $1600.00 and up!!! In a back corner of the show I almost walked past an older couple's table, she had knick-knacks and some jewelry, he had 5 or 6 rifles all crowded up on one end of the table. A second glance revealed a Marlin lever gun with a 24" barrel. So I says to myself, "Self, it wont take a minute to look", which I did.
This is a Model 336ADL rifle, manufactured from 1948-1962. It is in about 95% condition on the metal and a few hunting scratches on the wood , which has the factory cut checkering. Nothing serious. It had obviously been in someone's closet for many many years, the old oil on the bolt had solidified and turned brown. The bore is as new. It still has the original factory sling swivels, but need a bullseye and a front sight hood. It is a .32 Special. The old feller was kind of a grouch but I managed to cajole him into coming down to $250.00 from his price of $275.00 and we parted friends. I knew I had done OK on it, a check in the Blue Book later told me I had done OK +.
So, now I gotta get bullets, cases, dies, a tang sight, etc. A guy can go broke getting bargains.

You got a more interesting, and more fun, gun than the EBR's, for about 1/6th the price...

Man that's nice! What a deal - $250
Very interesting find there - a nice 32 Special with 24" barrel - that'll be a great deer rifle!
Looking forward to the range reports.

Deal? That's the greatest understatement I've heard in a long time...
Fine looking rifle, and I hope you enjoy owning it.

I checked the serial #, it's a 1951 model. I spent a couple hours on it this afternoon, detail stripped it and got it cleaned up good. Lever screw was siezed up solid, had to heat it up a little and douse it with BreakFree, came right out after that. Old lube was all dried out and caked in, firing pin was froze up, etc. Finally got 'er all slicked up and lookin' good, is in better shape than I first thought. The stock wood was really dry, gave it a good rub down with some fine steel wool and linseed oil, good as new.

Not a great deal, knocks down any whiskers and leaves a nice soft glow to the wood, doesn't remove any at all that I can tell. Wont do anything at all to newer poly finishes, just works on old oil finished wood.

I think mine is 1951 year model in 30-30. Very nice guns, but some guys don't like the longer tubes. You lucked out, and in a somewhat more rare caliber than you expect to sneak up on.
To hell with them fellas, buzzards gotta eat same as the worms.
