OT - Bought a Japanese car; prayer request for seller
I hope y'all can forgive me. I bought my neighbor's 2006 Honda Civic, but it was for a good reason. They were a nice, sweet couple, but he succumbed to pancreatic cancer. She wanted a quick sale to a dealer, which would not be good for her, with the high mileage and standard transmission, plus the credit crunch hurting car sales for all except cash buyers. I knew Wesley babied his car, and that the miles were gently highway miles, so I offered his widow private sale "blue book" for the car, once she got the title transferred to her name. She tried to persuade me to pay less, but a fair price is not charity, it is simply the right thing to do.
I will continue to commute in my Jeep, the perfect urban assault vehicle. The Civic will be mostly for day trips outside the city. I will respect the widow's wishes to keep the car where she and her son will not see it, as it causes them distress, at least for now. They are a good Christian family. It would be nice of y'all to say a prayer for them during this difficult period.

Guys, just to be clear, I am not looking for praise; I think I just did the right thing for a friend's widow. She is not fluent in English, and asked for help in dealing with the sale. How could I even think of taking advantage of the situation?

A big +1 here too.

I know you're not looking for praise, but it's reassuring to know there are still good folks out there who will do the right thing when the need arises! Prayers for your neighbor's family, and for you too!

Good on ya.....chances are the Civic was made in America with lots of American parts....I wouldn't buy anything but a Honda these days....The Civic I had was great and the CR-V I traded it in on is even better........ 250,000 thousand miles is not too much to expect except for a timing belt or so.....

We know you were not looking for praise, but when a fellow does a good and honorable thing, he deserves a pat on the back, and you did good. God Bless you and your friends.

Re: OT - Bought a Japanese car; prayer request for seller
Remember, buying a USED car does not affect the nation's balance of payments. It only affects the seller. You are certainly keeping your money in the United States by passing it to a United States citizen.
Buying a new foreign car would affect the balance of payments, but the point has been made that these days, many domestic brands are made overseas and many overseas brands are made here.
