OT - small frog in a tiny puddle

Post by AmBraCol »

Well, today we had a "local championship" in the IPSCA type of thing. It was my first such and was very well run. We had folks from quite a ways away, about three times as many as I was expecting. It was amazing to see all the stuff folks were digging out, all kinds of "race guns" and fancy magazine holders and what not. And there I was with a http://www.simplyrugged.com factory second T3P style holster holding my Llama Cassidy 38 spl on a worn out belt with a Don Hume double speedloader carrier. Kind of felt out of place, but that's life. Haven't found anyplace on God's green earth where I "fit in" completely. So we ran four stages and I felt that I'd not embarrassed myself too badly. I was amazed at how fast some of the racegun guys could miss. So we ran everyone through and they totaled it all up and I took first place in the revolver division and tied for first place score over all. WOW! THAT wasn't expected. Still, as I told my son when he called this afternoon- that's not proof of how good a shot I am, it's proof of how lousy my competition is... ;) Still, it was pretty cool to outshoot most of the bottom feeders with an "old fashioned, obsolete" sixgun.

You mean success has more to do with the shooter than the gun?

Good job!

Two thumbs up.

Out shooting your competition with their fancy equipment is more fun than I can explain. I've done it although it was two and half decades ago.
Just a hoot to watch them cry and whine that you somehow cheated.

Congrats on your win and tie. You deserve it.

Really proud of you for your shooting, reckon the Lord just felt you needed an extra blessing for being faithful to Him.

Funny what happens to some peoples shooting when the clock starts. I like to watch practical shooting matches, but I do not find them very practical. The shooter/competitor often shoots on the run and out in the open, not from cover. In real life that is the best way to miss the target and/or take a bullet. Someone should design a set of stages that allows for shots fired from cover and moving from cover to cover as fast as possible. In truth shooting and hitting what you shoot at in a vital area is the most important point in practical protection. Double or triple taping is nice but hitting the "A" section is really important and not the hostage if present. The club here almost never has revolver competitions, auto loaders or jams by the dozen is 99% of what is used, but the clock ticks on.

Now we need to help you get a single-action revolver so you can really hurt their feelings!

Well done Paul!!!

Always glad to hear a friend has won a match, especially when he beats the gamers with a real fighting sixgun!
