OT: Rest in Peace - China Camp

Post by Texican »

From the shooting wire.

The Shooting Wire has learned that Dennis Ming, who as "China Camp" became one of the best cowboy shooters in history and the sport's first great champions, suffered a fatal heart attack yesterday. A member of the Cowboy Action Shooting Hall of Fame, Ming appeared virtually unbeatable from 1992 through 1996, winning the overall SASS World Championship five consecutive times.

Y'all would be pleased to know that he won with a model 92 in the early days.

Thats too bad. I do not know much about Cowboy Action Shooting but I certainly heard of China Camp. He was a legend. Prayers for Mr. Ming and his family. 1886.

My prayers go out to his wife and daughter. :(

Breaks my heart. He wasn't that old. The world and sport will miss him. I saw a documentary on him and his family not that long ago. I pray for them.

Dennis Ming was a class act, both on a personal level and as a champion shooter. He was always quick to lend a hand and an encouraging word to the new shooter, and always served as a outstanding example for all. I can not believe he is gone.

My prayers go out to (Jeanie and Jessie) Prairie Weet and Sweetwater.

Condolences to the Ming family. Years ago, the first year I was a member of SASS, I attended a shoot where China Camp was competing. I managed to speak with him for a few minutes, and I told him how I had suffered a near-fatal accident that almost cost me the use of my left arm, and how i was reluctant to try competing with such a handicap. I knew he'd had some problems with his arm/hand, and he still managed to be be a champion. Mr. Ming was gracious and encouraging, and his kind words inspired me to compete dispite my disability.

Happy Trails, China Camp. And thank you, sir.

Oh my! I find it hard to believe that China Camp is gone. My sincerest condolences go to his family and the many frieds that he had. It is a sad day for the SASS community.

Dennis was one of the reasons I stuck with cowboy action shooting. His, and others, acceptance of new folks was so different than I'd previously experienced was inspiring. He will be missed by all that knew him.
