Got a new Simply Rugged Pancake Holster, multi-fit

Post by Lastmohecken »

I received a couple of Simply Rugged Pancake Holsters today. One of them, I ordered for a 3 screw .357 Ruger Blackhawk, with the 4-5/8" barrel, and I also told them that it would do double duty, to also carry my 50th Anniversary .357 Blackhawk, on the Vaquero frame with adjustable sights. in the meantime since ordering, I have purchased a couple of new Ruger's. One being a 45 Convertible, New Blackhawk which is on the larger frame and also a large frame Bisley 44mag. I hoped but figured the new holster would be too small for the larger frame New Blackhawk, but was pleasantly surprised with a pretty good fit. This holster will also holster my N Frame Smith and Wesson revolvers like my 5 inch 629 Classic. So this holster is a great holster to own, for multiple guns. And as expensive as good holsters are, that's a real bonus.

Here's a few pictures. First picture here is my 3 screw .357 mag. This is the gun I ordered the holster for, and it does fit it well. Notice it sits fairly low in the holster. Trigger guard and hammer well covered.

I guess everyone of these pictures is going to load sideways for some reason. If you click on the picture, it will blow up and right itself. Anyway, here's a picture of my Bisley Super Blackhawk. It rides a little higher but carries well and draws clean from the leather.

And here's my 45 Convertible, which is the gun that I will probably carry the most, since it is my new favorite.

And I found that the holster fits my 629 Classic 44 mag with 5" barrel just fine, and I carry it some for CCW. My other N Frames fit good also. I mainly wanted to post this, to show how if you order for the right gun, several other guns, may work well, also. I thought this might be helpful to someone thinking about a new holster, specifically the Pancake.

The other thing I wanted to say, is I love a holster with a rich brown color to it, but Tim Sundles of Buffalo Bore commented on one of his videos that he liked black because it's just not very noticeable, and blends in the best. And I have to agree after thinking about it and trying it, especially with black Wrangler jeans. Even though this holster is a little long with the addition of an open black western shirt or vest, the holster virtually disappears. It's just not noticeable, to the average joe, when you are about town, even though it might be peaking out the bottom past the cover shirt an inch or two.

Interesting, I've got the same holster and never considered that it might work for an N frame. I just tried it and mine is stitched just a bit too tight around the trigger guard to take an N, close but no cigar as the old saying goes.

I have one for SAA size guns and one for large frame Rugers. I heft my holsters cut for only two belt slots and with room for a higher front sight.

This is my favorite and most used holster.

Yep, my Rugers, at least 3 of them could benefit from a slightly taller front sight, but I get by ok, with them cranked all of the way down. But it seems to be a pretty consistent thing with Ruger.

I kind of wouldn't have minded having them delete that lower belt slot, but it cost an extra $40.00 . So, I opted not to. I did spring for the boarder stamping, however, and that was $20 extra, if I remember correctly. I don't understand why it cost so much to leave out that lower belt slot.

Mine must have been stitched up just slightly wider, I guess. Mine is for the Old Model Ruger 3 screw. I may have just lucked out, since mine will still work for the large frame Ruger, but is probably a tighter fit than one made specifically for the large framed Ruger.
