I was stationed in Panama 89-92 and traveled in different central and south American countries. It was common to run into Cuban worker bees, businessmen, musicians, IOW the average Señor and not the party lapdogs and overseers that kept watch over them while they worked out of the country as when they saw a safe chance to defect, they would....Well, not the ones with family still in Cuba.
Good guys.
They hated the communists.
This current blockading is not bothering the communist party elite as they can take whatever level of goods they want.
It's the everyday Cuban Jose that is getting *&^^ed and the Party Elites do not care.
If we want The People to rise up, IMO, we should be supporting them and not holding them down.
To win the hearts and minds of starving people, you have to feed them.
BTW, this is why that somehow you must never cede your weapons and supply of ammo.

I’ve always felt like if we’re gonna spend a bunch of money, promoting freedom and stabilizing other nations, the best thing we could do with some of that money would be a modern version of the ‘liberator pistol’ program.

Imagine if some town of 20,000 people had a bunch of parachutes drop about 5,000 AR-15’s or AK’s with 10,000 rounds of ammunition apiece already loaded in magazines, and maybe a dozen grenades for every gun. Toss in a few LAWS rockets for thrills.

I’m thinking that might spice things up a bit. The next phase clip truck or helicopter full of killers might get shot back at. Tyrants and gang rapists who love to machete off limbs of babies, or set them on fire in front of their mothers while they rape them and castrate their fathers, tend to have ‘transformative experiences’ when you throw bullets or grenades at them.

And as Blaine said - NEVER ever allow seemingly-harmless ‘background checks’, even on scary assault weapons’, because that is always the last point of no return, after which incremental confiscation can occur after some crisis is allowed to happen (or created) by the government. It may take a generation or two, but it tends to go downhill after that, if you pay attention to history. The only ‘exceptions’ are places like Australia and Europe that get a little bit longer grace period because redneck places like the United States protect them. (…and I’m not really sure why we still do…)
