Totally Off Topic - The Times They Are A-Changin'

Trying to remember all the companies making automobiles and the models when I was a kid in the 1950's .... there were a lot of them. A lot were bought out by larger companies toward the end of the '50's and in the '60's. I know I didn't list them all. Anyone have more?

Yeah .. AMC built the Javelin

I left off Corvette for GMC ... the first one came out in 1954 I believe it was ... it was an inline 6 cylinder. And Ford made the Thunderbird. My friend had a '56 we ran around in. Oh ... International made the Scout. I had one of those. It was a really cool 4WD.

And Willy's made the Jeep!

For a bit then it dwindled down to Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler, then the 'foreign' ones like Honda and Toyota came along, and before long they had more plants in the US than the original 'American' companies, who had relocated out of the country.

Yessir. I was filling out some stuff for my kids, wanting to know about my childhood. Made me think of all the different cars that were made and how they all looked different. I was a teen during the 60's when the muscle cars came out. Those were great!

I read a statistic a couple of years ago that listed the cars with the most domestically sourced parts. The Toyota Camry had the most American made parts, more than Ford, GM or Mopar.

But... how many models under each marque can you name? Sticking to the '50s & 60s... and I know I don't remember them all.

NashI believe that Rambler was originally a Hash model, later by AMC, but Nash also made the Metropolitan and another that escapes at the moment.

Dodge was doing great. Then, inexplicably, they turned into Daimlers. Then they became Obama mobiles. Then Fiats (Fix It Again Toney). Now what is a Stellantis? I don't care anymore.

My next vehicle will have to be an old pre-computer pickup, and after that if I had the money I'd buy another used John Deere 650 Bulldozer as a vehicle (had one for four years and it was SO useful on the farm).

But..... if I ever won the lottery (which I won't since I don't buy tickets), you'll know, because I'll have an early-70's Mustang Shelby Mach One.... 8)

Studebaker Golden Hawk with water injection was fast for the time. Amc Gremlin was just ugly. Ford Torino Talladega was fast on the big oval Nascar tracks. The Torino had a drag pack that used a 428 Super Cobra Jet and 4.11 gears that was a special order. It put up low 13s in the ¼ mile and could do it all day without damage to the motor. Most cars at the time could do 1 to 3 runs before needing major work. That SCJ was pushed at factory to do 25 runs before needing work. The Superbird with the 440 or 426 six pack could do 2 runs at most before needing work, but they could get into the 12s.

Thanks everyone. I know i missed a lot. And all the various models of each. The years of the 1960's when I was in Korea and Japan I was really out of touch with American cars.
