OT, what's the old saying...

Post by GunnyMack »

Necessity is the mother of invention?
Well got out of work a little early today and decided it was a good day to design and make the heater cup holder ting-a-ma-jig.

Huh? You ask.

I plow a dozen neighbors with my Polaris Ranger, the last storm was single digit temps and my breath was freezing on the inside of the windshield. Normally just light frost or fogging but I actually had to get a spare bottle of washer fluid and a rag to be able to see.

There are heater kits available, $400+ and I just cant see spending that when after about an hour I'm usually peeling layers off.

So I found a Mr. Buddy GOLF CART heater. Fits in various size cup holders.
Of course the way my dash is designed the heater would not go in.
So being the tinker/smith I am I made up this mount.

I turned a solid 'cup' from a hunk of 4x4 to fit the holder, then fit the horizontal to the dash , made up the container box to hold the propane bottle.
It makes 4000 btu and I have a feeling I'll be plowing in a t-shirt!

Great idea! Awesome ingenuity -- which I might have to copy to use on my ATV/plow rig.

I've also heard that desperation is the father. Probably because desperation usually doesn't last as long as necessity.

Funny how a bit of need will bring out the intelligence and creativity in people.

Nice job Will!
By the way, that old saying is really old -- credited to Plato in 325 BC when he wrote "our need will be the real creator" and first translated into English in 1519 as the phrase we know today. 8)

I'll try to remember that Bill! A good trivia question.
