Why no .41 ?
In a RUGER GP100 , or a S&W L FRAME , I think those would be great platforms.

I always wondered why they didn't do an L frame. They have the 5 shot 44 L frame and a 7 shot 357. Can they not do a 6 shot 41 that isn't an N frame? I know that basically its sort of the same same but I assume the L frame would be lighter. Why not do an L frame 41 mag Mountain Gun?

Re: Why no .41 ?
When I made my Single Six 44 special I was not the fan of 41 that I am now! I would really rather have it in 41 special!
As for S&W and Ruger it could be as simple as not enough people called and said I Want One.
As we all know, the 41 doesn't have the fan club that 44 mag does, the people who are fans KNOW just how great the 41 is!

It seems they’re ok with the 10 mm , which is the little brother to the .41 mag.

10mm is a modern 38-40. I'd like to see more offerings in 41 Magnum.

Re: Why no .41 ?
I love the 41 mag and special, I even took it to Africa and took 11 of my 12 animals with it. Those of us that use it and love it are few and far between. I was speaking with Jason at Lipseys, and he confirmed my worries that there’s just not much profit in a weak seller, that the 41 would likely be. 357, 44, 10MM are all Much more popular caliber wise.
So, I sent a Ruger GP100, Match Champion 357 to Ronnie Wells to create a 41 out of…… should be a great size for it.
Here’s the donor gun.

I'd be interested to hear what the 41's do better than the 44 Special.
My only thing 'in between' 357 Mag and 44 Mag is a 44 Special Charter Arms Pug/Bulldog, so I'm inexperienced in that area.

Re: Why no .41 ?
In the case of my Single Six Doc it's the matter of what I had to do to make the cylinder and frame work for 5 shot 44. I actually made 2 cylinders, the first one had cylinder walls that we determined were too thin to be safe. That led me to having to open up the frame more.
If I had gone to 41 I would not have had to open the frame as much, the first cylinder giving it the safety margin of thicker walls.
I still do not hotrod my 44 special loads though!

From PACO's article elsewhere on this forum:
........"the 41 mag loaded right will do all that anyone needs for heavy game all over the continental U.S.
Of course if I do need something more powerful, I always have a prize FA 454. Come to think of it mayhaps
that makes the 44 magnum a middle magnum...41 mag/44 mag/ 454! That’s my personal feelings...the
41 is Sunday’s child....sunny and bright! "
I seem to be a fan of oddball stuff. The 41 is a GREAT cartridge. And it's super-flexible - not unlike
the 357 Magnum in that regard.
My pet load for years for the 41 Magnum has been 7.0 gr. of 231 pushing a 215 gr. LSWC.
OAL is 1.585". Bullet Diameter is .411".
Accuracy is just over 1" at 25 yards if I do my part. Somebody
who really knows what they're doing could probably do better.
I also worked up a load for moose hunting some years ago. (Didn't get
a moose, but that's another story!)
This load used a Cast Performance 250gr. WFNGC over 19.5 gr. of H110.
OAL was 1.550. Bullet diameter was .410". Excellent accuracy -similar
to the load above. These were shot in a Ruger Blackhawk.
*****WARNING: Stout load! Be careful!*****
I broke a set of Hogue Polymer Grips with this load, and finally modified
the grip frame to take a Hogue Monogrip. 25 rounds of this medicine is
more than enough in an afternoon for me! I imagine a moose wouldn't
like it, either.....
I'd love to have a revolver in 41 Special. It'd be a TERRIFIC self-defense rig.
Power and loadings would be quite similar to the original law enforcement
load for the 41 Magnum, which was detuned from the maximum hunting loads.
1,000 to 1,100 fps pushing a 210gr. HP bullet is a very good recipe for social work.
(Anybody know who's converting GP100s these days? Bowen used to, but he's retiring.)
Ruger has advertised a Lipsey's special mid-frame SA revolver in 41 Mag with Bisley grips for
over a year now. I talked with Ruger, and they're not making any Lipsey's specials at
the moment. I've had an order in at my local gunshop for almost a year now. Which brings
me to another sore subject: Why are these guns tested and reviewed in the major gun mags
and/or on YouTube if they have no intention of making 'em? I ran into the same thing with
my Springfield Armory SA-35. I waited a year for that one, too. Annoyin' as all freakin'
get out.......
