I really respect Rhonda Patrick, and this overview of the physiology of Omega-3's is really good.

Such a SIMPLE, inexpensive, and safe intervention ("...check with your personal physician...") that appears to benefit nearly everyone.

On her Vitamin D comments, a couple things though - the U.S. just officially announced that they screwed up the recommendation calculations and were off by a factor of about 15 - the dose should evidently be around 8,000 units per day to get 'to goal' FOR MOST OF US ("....consult with your personal physician...")
I've been taking 20,000 units of D3 daily for two years and my level of 25-OH-Vitamin D (the active form) has stabilized around 80-85. I think 80-100 is ideal. A very FEW docs would say 80-140, but more 'functional medicine' types would probably say 60-100, and the 'academics' would stick with the 30-100 range that is in my opinion obsolete.

Keep in mind for you Brits that the units of measure THERE are different, so have to be converted - see John Campbell's presentation on the topic.

US uses nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml) and the UK uses snanomoles/liter (nmol/l), and I think Campbell addresses it and the need to convert before setting personal blood level goals.

Good info doc, though I might go ahead and die early rather than have to eat a regular diet of salmon. Maybe could handle some krill pills...

As one of those "octogenarians" I am probably rapidly approaching my "sell by" date no matter what I eat (mostly beef, occasionally chicken, pork in the form of bacon or ham, very rarely fish and never anything resembling trout or salmon).

LOL - I did an experiment on myself many years ago - because we were 'told' that we should advise patients to "eat at least two or three servings of salmon or other fish per week" to optimize lipids. Being a 'skeptic' of stuff that academics tell me, I figured I'd see if it really helped before I bothered patients to do it, and if you want to know if 2-3 servings per week helps, how about seeing if 7 whole CANS of salmon per week help...? :shock:

I went to Kroger, and bought two 24-can cases of Salmon, and choked down a whole can of it every day for 48 days, and on the last day had a lipid panel.

Salmon was supposed to raises the HDL ('good cholesterol'), and mine was only 32 (should be at least 40). After the 48 cans of salmon in 48 days, my HDL 'rose' all the way to 23 from 32... :?

One of my first lessons in "don't always believe what the 'academic consensus' says..."

Now granted - that was before the NMR lipoprofiles, which measure oxidized LDL instead of just LDL, and HDL particles (ApoA) instead of just overall HDL amount, so it might be that had I done that kind of testing, there really would have been a benefit.

However the main result of the test was that it took about five years before I ever wanted to try salmon again.....!

Now - if someone would just force me to eat tons of bread and other 'carbs' for a month or two, so I'd jerk back and never want to eat THOSE again, that might be good for my health... :D

Well that's taking your job above and beyond, doc. I can't imagine that level of "self-sacrifice for science"-- my aversion to salmonids came about from just a few weeks of "living off the land" where the land mostly provided trout. That was over 50 years ago and I still don't have any interest in a salmon dinner.

I have a several-years-old bottle of Lugol's solution that the wife got for incorporating in the nebulizer mixture when fighting off covid germs. Maybe a few drops of that in my morning juice would take care of the Iodine requirement. It smells real "Iodiney".

I guess it would be good to check with a real (current) pharmacist to be sure, but I don’t think that iodine solution would really ever lose its potency.
